Indian Army Deploys More Troops in Jammu Region Following Recent Terror Attacks

Jammu: In light of the recent instances of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K),  the Indian Army has increased the deployment of troops in the Jammu region.

In Kathua, Samba, Doda, Bhaderwah, and Kishtwar, troop deployment has been increased. In addition to this, more troops have been sent from the Western Command.

Notably, this is for the first time since the Chinese face-off in Galwan, that there has been such a huge change in the troops deployment in the region, to eliminate terrorists. 

3,500 to 4,000 Personnel brought in region

The Army has already brought in troops to the area including one brigade strength of around 3,500-4000 personnel to counter Pakistan's proxy aggression here.

Military commanders on the ground have been devising strategies to locate and neutralize terrorists equipped with advanced weaponry and communication gear. In the region, the Army has established a robust counter-terrorism framework, including two units of the Rashtriya Rifles.  

Meanwhile, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is regularly reviewing the security situation and a new strategy has been adopted to neutralise terrorists.

In the last six weeks, increased unrest in the area has resulted in 24 fatalities, including 10 security personnel, and 56 injuries. Over the past three days alone, Doda district has witnessed three separate terrorist incidents, claiming the lives of four army personnel, among them a Captain.

On July 15, based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation by the Indian Army and JK Police was in progress in an area North of Doda. According to the White Knight Corps, contact with terrorists was established at about 9 pm during which a heavy firefight ensued. 4 soldiers, including an officer, were killed in action.

On July 16, LtGen MV Suchindra Kumar, Northern Army Commander, laid a wreath to pay homage to the bravehearts Captain Brijesh Thapa, Naik D Rajesh, Sepoy Bijendra, and Sepoy Ajay Kumar Singh, who laid down their lives in the line of duty to ensure peace in the region while undertaking a counter-terrorist operation in Doda.
