Indian Army holds 'MAITREE' joint military exercise with Thai army

The Indian Army and Royal Thailand army conducted an annual joint military exercise MAITREE in which troops of India and Thailand conducted 48 hours exercise

The Indian Army and Royal Thailand army have participated in the annual joint military exercise MAITREE in which troops of India and Thailand conducted 48 hours field exercise of joint planning, helicopter insertion and joint counter-terrorism operations.  

Exercise 'MAITREE', the annual bilateral joint exercise between the Indian Army and Royal Thailand Army, commenced on Monday at the Joint Training Node (JTN) situated in Umroi, Meghalaya. The aim of this exercise is to exchange ideas and warfare techniques mainly in Counter-Terrorism Operation in both jungle terrain and urban scenario. The 14-day exercise is conducted under the overarching framework of the United Nations Mandate, 2006.

48-hour joint exercise 

The joint military exercise also included Yoga sessions along with other fitness exercises which are part of lifestyles led by both the armies. It culminated with a 48-hour joint exercise, which showcased the planning and execution of joint skills of soldiers while conducting any Counter-Terrorism Operation. This year, 100 troops from the Indian Army and 45 troops from the Royal Thailand Army have been part of the exercise. Exercise MAITREE- 2019 has been the face of long-standing bilateral ties between India and Thailand since 2006. 

Every year a contingent of Indian Army and Royal Thailand Army participate in this exercise. This year, the contingents have been led by Col Manish Joshi of the Indian Army and Col Thiradej Limkunagul from the Royal Thailand Army. Thailand is not the only country with whom India is carrying out joint exercises. The US Army as well as the British Army, have bilateral arrangements with the Indian Army. The Umroi station of the Indian Army is a special facility designed on the lines of Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS), Vairengte in Mizoram. It has both urban and jungle set-up to facilitate training to the armed forces.

India's joint military exercise with the USA

On September 5, the joint military exercise between the Indian Army and the United States Army took place at the Joint Base Lewis Macard near Washington. The joint exercise "Yudh Abhyas" lasted till September 18. It was one of the biggest joint military exercise and defence corporation endeavours between India and the USA. Yudh Abhyas 2019 was the 15th edition of the joint military exercise hosted alternately between the two countries in which both armies trained and executed a series of well-developed operations for neutralization of threats of varied nature.
