Indian Navy Rescues 8 Indians, One Sri Lankan From Capsized Oil Tanker Near Oman
Navy has deployed INS Teg for the rescue operations. So far, 8 Indians and one Sri Lankan have been rescued. The search for remaining survivors continues.
New Delhi: In a remarkable rescue operation conducted in the oceans, the Indian Navy has rescued nine crew members, including eight Indians, who were on an oil tanker that capsized off Oman coast on July 15.
The Indian Navy said that it rescued nine crew members including eight Indians and one Sri Lankan national. The Navy deployed INS Teg which rendered SAR assistance to the capsized Oil Tanker MV Prestige Falcon.
Navy Deploys INS Teg
The Merchant Vessel had capsized about 25 Nautical Miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman on July 15 search and rescue efforts were launched in coordination with Oman Authorities. The Merchant Vessel is reported to have had a total of 16 crew, including 13 Indians and 3 Sri Lankans.
Search for Remaining Survivors Continues
Indian Navy further added that search and rescue by Indian & Omani assets is being undertaken in challenging weather conditions as the area is experiencing rough sea & strong winds. Navy’s Long Range Maritime Reconnaissance aircraft P8I is also deployed in the rescue operations.
The Indian Embassy in Oman also said that it is also coordinating the search and rescue operations with Omani authorities for the remaining survivors.
“Embassy is coordinating SAR ops with Omani authorities and Indian Navy for MT Prestige Falcon, a Comoros flagged vessel that capsized off the coast of Oman on July 15th. 9 crew including 8 Indians have been rescued today by INS Teg. Search for the remaining survivors continues,” Indian Embassy posted on X.
