International Yoga Day 2019: PM Narendra Modi to attend event in Ranchi on June 21

Ranchi is scheduled to host the main event of International Yoga Day on June 21. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend be attending the event, the Ministry of AYUSH confirmed.

The event will be held at the Prabhat Tara ground and around 30,000 people are expected to participate in it. Along with the Prime Minister, several state dignitaries, besides yoga organisations and instructors will attend the event. A curtain raiser has been scheduled on June 13. The ministry which is responsible for the annual celebrations has organised several programmes since the inception of Yoga Day in 2015. In Delhi, the main event will be at Rajpath and it will be organised by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in association with the ministry.

In addition, more programmes will also be held at the Red Fort, Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Yamuna Sports Complex, Swarna Jayanti Park and the Rohini and Dwarka Sector- 11 in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The AYUSH Ministry in a statement has said:

“The ministry has urged all other ministries and departments of the central government, state governments and related institutions to work in a coordinated manner to observe the day and secure substantial long-term gains in the area of public health and wellbeing.”  

State governments and all stakeholders are undertaking several activities to ensure maximum participation in the yoga day celebrations, the statement added. Adding that this is essentially a specified sequence of yoga asanas for 45 minutes, the Ministry said:

“To ensure a large number of people participate and the event’s success, some of the notable accomplished yoga gurus of India had come together and developed the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP).”

Major industrial bodies like CII, FICCI, Institute of Company Secretary, as well as educational bodies like CBSE, NCERT, UGC, DAV have already rolled out various programmes in preparation for June 21 event. In addition to this, the ministry has also encouraged individuals and institutions - including educational, government bodies, business firms, industries and cultural organisations to join the International Yoga Day event for the benefit of their staff, the statement said.

The emphasis of Yoga Day is on harmonious mass yoga demonstrations, in which millions of people participate, at thousands of venues.
