'It Was Not Gang-Rape': CBI in Its Report on Kolkata Rape-Murder Case | 7 Stunning Claims
The CBI report indicated that the trainee doctor was not gang-raped.
Kolkata: The key findings of the status report submitted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to the Supreme Court on Thursday on the probe into the Kolkata rape-murder case has indicated that the trainee doctor was not gang-raped. Further, the probe, which the CBI took over on August 13, found the involvement of one person, Sanjoy Roy, in the horrific incident which took place at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Meanwhile, the forensic report has also suggested that the doctor was raped and killed by Roy, a civic volunteer who was attached to the Kolkata Police. Refuting allegations of gang-rape, the DNA report has also confirmed the involvement of one person.
Roy was arrested on August 10, a day after the semi-naked body of the doctor was found in the seminar hall of the RG Kar hospital.
Additionally, the CBI has also scanned the CCTV footage that showed Roy entering the building where the doctor was found murdered. Roy, who has a history of domestic abuse and had access to all departments of the hospital, was arrested after his Bluetooth headset was recovered at the crime scene. However, the CBI is yet to conclude its probe in the possible involvement of more people in the case. The agency is likely to send the forensic report to independent experts to get their final opinion.
The report also revealed that the crime scene in the Kolkata rape-murder case had been tampered with, and the victim's family was intentionally misled with a false narrative of suicide.
If reports are to be believed, the CBI has revealed several critical gaps in the ongoing investigation. The first major issue was the considerable delay between the discovery of the victim's body in the seminar hall of the hospital on the morning of August 9 and the notification to the local police. Reports indicated that CBI officials are particularly focused on understanding why hospital authorities, especially the former and controversial principal of RG Kar Medical College, Dr Sandip Ghosh, took so long to inform the police after the body was found.
Another gap in the investigation is identifying the person who first found the victim's body in the seminar hall. Despite extensive questioning of both medical and non-medical staff at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, the CBI is yet to determine who initially found the body.
The central probe agency continued to grill former RG Kar hospital principal Sandip Ghosh for the sixth consecutive day. The agency sleuths also summoned various other top authorities of the hospital, including its current superintendent and vice-principal Bulbul Mukhopadhyay and her predecessor Sanjay Vasishth, for questioning.
SC Debunks Claims of Semen in Post-Mortem Report
During the hearing, CJI DY Chandrachud debunked the reports of finding semen inside the body of the victim doctor. After one of the counsel mentioned reports related to the post-mortem over some gms of semen, the CJI asked them to not to refer to social media to make submissions in the court. He said, "Don't read what is there on the social media."
The top court had asked the CBI to file a status report on the status of the investigation in the rape case. Besides, the court asked the West Bengal government to file a status report on the mob attack incident that took place at the RG Kar hospital on August 15.
