J&K's Article 370 scrapped: Peace & normalcy on ground as local welcome change & assurances by Centre: NSA report
Home Ministry on Tuesday reviewed the ground situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370 was scrapped as the Rajya Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organisation Bill, 2019.
The National Security advisor along with his team late on Monday reviewed the ground situation in the state of Jammu and Kashmir after Article 370 was scrapped as the Rajya Sabha passed the Jammu and Kashmir Re-organisation Bill, 2019. NSA Ajit Doval along with his security team visited the valley on Monday. Home Minister Amit Shah had said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that J&K will become a State at the appropriate time if situation improves and that the Centre does not want it to remain an Union Territory (UT) forever. As per the ground reports by the NSA accessed by Republic, this decision has been welcomed by local population. The NSA's report said that there is peace and normalcy J&K and there has been no agitation.The report also said that Locals supportive, feel the change was well planned and feel sufficiently reassured by statements and actions of Centre. It also declared that people are feeling that local politicians had vested interests.
Army says it is prepared against any disruption on LOC against
As Pakistan rejected the development in Kashmir, claiming it to be an international issue and warning of 'misadventure', Army Commander of Northern Command chaired a core group meeting and reviews operational readiness and security arrangements. Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh of Northern Command said that Indian army is prepared to respond with resolve.
He said: "Indian Army fully prepared to deal with any contingency on the LoC or Hinterland. India will not allow breakdown of Law & Order." He said that disruptive elements – will be dealt with firmly. The Army Commander also urged people not to proliferate rumours, dissuade kin from rumour mongering. He assured that Security Forces are firmly in control of situation.
Governor calls for security review meeting
A day after the upper house of the Parliament passed the massive Jammu & Kashmir (Reorganisation) Bill, 2019, Jammu and Kahsmir governor held a meeting last night on Monday to review security situation. The Bill scraps the Article 370 that makes way for Article 35 A which provided special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a Raj Bhawan spokesperson, governor Satya Pal Malik held a meeting with top officials and reviewed the prevailing security and law and order scenario in the state.The governor's advisors K Vijay Kumar, KK Sharma, K Skandan and Farooq Khan, and chief secretary BVR Subrahmanyam attended the meeting. Kumar, Skandan and Khan, who returned to Srinagar from Jammu after taking stock of essential services, briefed the governor about the adequacy of essential supplies and delivery of various public services to the people, including electricity, water supply and health care services.
