J&K's Article 370 to go: Chandrababu Naidu's TDP supports Modi govt's integration move

Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu took to his Twitter handle to support Modi government's resolution to revoke Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

He wrote: "Desam Party supports the Union Govt as it seeks to repeal Article 370. I pray for the peace and prosperity of the people of J&K. #Article370"

Naidu's party, which had just over a year ago quit the NDA seeking special category status for Andhra Pradesh, before being humbled in elections in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and the Lok Sabha, have come out in support of Modi Government over this historic decision.

Earlier in the day, Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution in Rajya Sabha to abolish Article 370 after the President issued a notification and also moved a bill to divide the state into two Union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

Meanwhile, six columns of the Army has been deployed in Jammu city on Monday to maintain law and order after the Centre revoked Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. A police officer said the Army personnel were deployed in sensitive localities of the city as a precautionary measure.

Police, assisted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were deployed across the Jammu region early on Monday and are strictly implementing the prohibitory orders issued by the deputy commissioners, who also ordered closure of all educational institutions

The government on Monday revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and proposed that the state be bifurcated into two union territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
