YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh wants officials to keep a check on the prices of vegetables. The leader of the YSR Congress party has also asked effective measures to be taken on the market intelligence of agricultural products. At a State Agriculture Mission meeting on Saturday, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said new measures should be taken based on the inputs from the agriculture committees and a long-term plan has to be mapped out for stabilising the prices of agricultural products. The Chief Minister also hopes to form a cell consisting of experts on topics like the purchase of agriculture goods and marketing of agricultural products in Andhra. He also addressed the rise in the cost of onions in the market, asking the officials to keep in check.
CM introduces new farmer schemes
The 'Annadata Sukhibhava' launched by the previous government has been cancelled, introducing a new scheme called 'YSR Rytu Bharosa' which aims at providing input subsidy to farmers, with the central component. The new 'Rythu Bharosa' scheme will be implemented from October 15. The CM is offering investment support of Rs 12,500 annually to every farmer. Along with the support scheme, the government is also giving farmers free crop insurance and interest-free loans. The government did agree that the support amount offered was lesser than what was offered by the previous government but the additional perks of insurance and loans would make up for it.
New government renames schemes
In an unprecedented move, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday reviewed and renamed various schemes and policies launched by the previous government in the state under Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu. With 'NTR Bharosa' welfare pensions scheme being renamed as 'YSR Aasara', the mid-day meal scheme has been also renamed as 'YSR Akshaya Patra' by the YSR government.
