The National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar reopened on October 15, Tuesday after being shut for two-and-a-half months. The institution was closed in view of security concerns in the region post-abrogation of Article 370 and the students who belonged to states other than Jammu and Kashmir were sent home.
'Very happy that we can continue our studies'
"All the students were much tensed as the institution was closed from many days following the abrogation of article 370. Now when it has finally re-opened we all are very excited and happy that we can continue our studies," Praful, a student told ANI.
Mobile services were also restored in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday after a span of over two months since the Central government's move to repeal Article 370 that accorded special status to the region. The decision to restore mobile phone services came days after Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik announced the withdrawal of security advisory for tourists from October 10.
40 lakh mobile connections restored
The decision to restore mobile connectivity was also taken, following the government’s decision to release political detainees across the state in a phased manner. “There are around 40 Lakh postpaid mobile connections in the valley and all are being restored from today, BSNL has been restored and in the next few minutes other service providers will also be restored,” a senior functionary of the Jammu and Kashmir government said. The Jammu and Kashmir government announced on Saturday that all post-paid mobile phones in Kashmir province would be restored from October 14 (Monday), 2019 from 12 noon. “The mobile phones have already started ringing in the Kashmir valley,” a senior police officer said.
Text services stopped
A day after reviving postpaid mobile phone services, the Home Ministry yet again decided to snap text messaging services on Tuesday, in the Kashmir valley taking cognisance of the situation. The decision was reportedly taken by the Home Ministry after a meeting in the north block telecommunications.
