Javadekar: Central govt to provide water to all households by 2024
Prakash Javadekar announced that the central government will provide water to every household by 2024, he also inaugurated the Jaldoot initiative in Pune

The Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar on Saturday announced that the Central Government will provide water to every household by 2024. The Union Minister also inaugurated the 'Jaldoot' initiative in Pune, an exhibition to spread the message of water conservation to the masses. He also mentioned that the government has made water conservation as their number one priority and the newly formed Ministry of Jalshakti will be looking after the issues related to water scarcity in the country.
'Jaldoot- a unique initiative'
Speaking to ANI, Javadekar said, "Jaldoot is a unique initiative and it will take the message of water conservation to masses. It will travel around eight districts of Maharashtra in the next two months. It will also tell about the work done by the government in the last 100 days. The exhibition highlights bold initiatives and decisive actions taken by the government."

The 'Jaldoot' will travel to cities across Maharasthra such as Pune, Ahmednagar, Amravati, Nashik, Jalgaon, Buldhana and Solapur. The Jaldoot bus is developed by the Regional Outreach Bureau of Pune. During the inauguration ceremony, a 'Swachhta' oath was also administered by Javadekar to all the participants in the event.
Jal Jeevan mission
On the occasion of the 72nd Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the importance of water conservation and said that the government is committed to ensuring that drinking water reaches every house in the country. He further announced the 'Jal Jeevan mission' which will be looked after by the Jal Shakti Ministry.
Speaking about the importance of water conservation, PM Modi said, "At many places, people not getting drinking water even today. They need to travel a lot to get drinking water. We have to provide water to every house. We are working towards it. I am announcing from the Red Fort that we will go ahead with 'Jal Jeevan Mission' to ensure that drinking water reaches every house in the country."
The Jal Shakti Ministry, formed by integrating the Water Resources and Drinking Water and Sanitation Ministries, aims to work with state governments to ensure 'Har Ghar Jal' to all rural households by 2024. This water conservation campaign focuses on 1592 stressed blocks in 256 districts across the country. Elaborating on 'Jal Jeevan Mission', he said that both Centre and States are going to work together on this Mission and Rs. 3.5 lakh crore is allocated for the same.
