J&K DGP Cut Shorts his Security Cover by Over 65% to Tackle Shortage of Manpower

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat has cut short his security cover by over 65% as a step to cater shortage of manpower in the force. DGP said this while answering a question asked by local during Thana Diwas in Jammu.

DGP said that additional deployment has been made even in Jammu to strengthen law and order. Setting an example himself, he shared that two third of his personal security team have been relieved, stressing that “charity begins at home.”

Addressing concerns about deployment within the police force, Prabhat said that those who perform well will be rewarded with appropriate postings. He assured that officers who work for the country will get their desired postings immediately. Adding that systemic changes take time, he remarked, “Rome wasn’t built in a day,” signalling a long-term approach to improving the force’s functioning in Jammu and Kashmir.

DGP Prabhat accused Pakistan’s Army and ISI of controlling narcotics smuggling through terror groups. On rising drug abuse among youth, he remarked that if school-going children are involved in drug peddling, it reflects a lack of parental control in the society.

Prabhat dismissed any notion of authority, stating, “I have no credentials of being a ruler; I am here to serve in Jammu and Kashmir.” On women’s safety, he warned that if an Investigating Officer (IO) fails to file a chargesheet within 60 days, strict action will be taken.
