Remembering the iconic Kargil war of 1999 on Kargil Vijay Diwas, Jaipur Rural MP Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, on Friday has paid his tribute to the martyrs reliving the achievements of the Indian Army in defending the nation against Pakistan, posting on Twitter.
"Today is Kargil Vijay Diwas. Let us not remember our martyrs only today but every day. It is because of warriors like them that India is free and fierce today. In the early months of 1999, from mutually agreed winter positions of both countries, Pakistan moved ahead crossing the LoC, occupying Indian territory with the intent of cutting off the Leh-Srinagar highway. They did this to force us to vacate Siachen and make this an international issue," he said.
Rathore urges Indians to unite
Talking about what made the Kargil War unique, he summarised how the Indian Army maintained protocol inspite serious cross-border violation from Pakistan.
"We lost many troops in one of the fiercest battles and the world was watching. We did not cross the LoC and the world respected us for that. It was the first time when martyrs were sent home rather than cremating their bodies in the battlefield, as done earlier," he added.
Urging people to unite for India and inculcating a culture to stand up for the nation, he said:
"It is time for us to remain as one strong nation. we don't have to wait for a Kargil to unite. If you have a next of kin in your locality, pay a visit to them. Let us respect our armed forces and inculcate a culture among young people to stand up for our nation. Any nation with strong warriors will always be a free nation."
