Karnataka Horror: Woman Brutally Beaten by Neighbours Over Sex Work Allegations

Bengaluru: In Belagavi, Karnataka, a woman and a girl were allegedly beaten by their neighbours, and their clothing was ripped off on a suspicion that they were prostitutes. Reports of the incident came from Vaddarawadi.

The police complaint stated that the girl had been a resident of the area for four years.

The girl's family allegedly engaged in prostitution, according to a nearby household. The accused had stormed into her home, pulled her and the girl outside, and attacked them.

According to the police, the accused alleged that strangers regularly visited their house.

The neighbours, while assaulting the two, had torn the clothes of the woman in public and recorded video on mobile phones.

When the woman went to the police station to file a complaint, officials reportedly refused to accept it for two days. She then escalated the matter by approaching the Belagavi Police Commissioner, seeking protection due to threats to her life.

On the instruction from the Police Commissioner, the local police station filed the case against three persons accused of the assault. The investigation is underway and the police are preparing to question the alleged accused.

Last December, Belagavi reported a similar incident. A 42-year-old lady was paraded, stripped naked, and dragged outside her house on December 10, 2023. Then, allegedly because her son had eloped with a village girl, she was beaten and tied to an electric pole.
