Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited the Kartarpur corridor on October 14 and inspected the route ahead of the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor by Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled for November 8. The Home Secretary was accompanied by other officials during the visit, where he was apprised of the progress done so far.
PM Modi to inaugurate Kartarpur corridor
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Kartarpur corridor to Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan on November 8, Union Minister Harsimrat Badal said in a tweet.
'India committed to early completion of Kartarpur Corridor project'
Earlier, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said India hopes that the infrastructure projects on the Indian side is completed in a time-bound manner.
"The four-lane highway has been completed and the state-of-the-art passenger terminal will be completed by October end," Kumar said.
Manmohan Singh to attend the Kartarpur ceremony
Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh has accepted Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's invitation to attend the Kartarpur Corridor ceremony in Pakistan along with him.
Pakistan invites Dr Manmohan Singh
The Pakistan government also extended an invitation to Dr Manmohan Singh for the Kartarpur Corridor inauguration on November 9. A video invitation was extended by Pakistan Foreign Minister Mehmood Qureshi saying, "We are very happy about Kartarpur Corridor, Pakistan is preparing for it. Prime Minister (Imran Khan) is personally interested in this. We have decided to invite India's former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to grace his presence, he is very respected and also represents the Sikh community. I would like to extend him an invitation from Pakistan, we will send a formal letter to him soon. We are very happy to receive Sikh pilgrims who are coming to Kartarpur."
The Kartarpur corridor
The Kartarpur Corridor is an under-construction border corridor between the neighbouring nations of India and Pakistan, connecting the Sikh shrines of Dera Baba Nanak Sahib (located in Punjab, India) and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur (in Punjab, Pakistan). the corridor is intended to allow religious devotees from India to visit the Gurdwara in Kartarpur, 4.7 kilometres (2.9 miles) from the Pakistan-India border, without a visa. The corridor will reportedly be completed before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in November 2019.
