A day after P Chidambaram was sent to CBI custody till August 26, his son and Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Friday has issued a statement, targeting media. In the statement, the Congress leader has targeted media over his alleged "undislcosed" foreign assets abroad. Karti Chidambaram claimed that all his "assets are duly accounted for and disclosed in all statutory fillings. He added that he is "obliged to publicly declare his assets and has done so". Karti Chidambaram went on to state that he is classified as a PEP (Politically Exposed Person), which means that the level of scrutiny that he has to go through to open bank accounts and transact business is onerous. He further claimed that there is no war that he could hold assets without provenance of a source of funds.

Karti Chidambaram's Plush Spanish Villa

On Thursday, Republic accessed pictures of Karti Chidambaram's plush Villa in Spain. An opulent villa in the countryside of Spain includes a living room with a fireplace, an outdoor setting, a massive courtyard, wooden kitchen. This development came following his father P Chidambaram was apprehended by the CBI custody in the INX Media scam and other cases being probed against him. In the light of the money-laundering cases against them, both P Chidambaram and Karti have been questioned over the foreign assets owned by them and their family. 

P Chidambaram in CBI custody

P Chidambaram was sent to CBI custody till August 26 by a special CBI court in Delhi on Thursday evening. He was arrested by the probe agency on Wednesday, after being untraceable for almost 27 hours. Chidambaram made a surprise arrival at the Congress head office and addressed a press brief. Following which he reached his residence, wherein the CBI and ED officials were present to question the Parliamentarian. He later took him into custody for interrogation in INX Media case.

Karti Chidambaram clarifies on his bail

Shortly after his father was sent to CBI custody, Karti Chidambaram responded on the risks of his bail. Adding that he did not fear for his bail's future as it was granted by the Supreme Court, he stated that his father's counsels - Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Kapil Sibal countered CBI's claims effectively. Chidambaram, on his exit from the Court, flashed a 'Thumbs up' to the media, which was certainly reminiscent of Karti's fist pump in March 2018 after being granted bail by the Supreme Court.
