'KCR turned blind eye to TSRTC protests, eyeing assets': Krishna Rao

The general secretary of Telangana BJP, Krishna Sagar Rao, has accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao aka KCR of eyeing the assets of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC). He also claimed that KCR has turned a blind eye towards the ongoing protest by the TSRTC employees. The TSRTC staff have been demanding the merger of RTC with the Telangana Government.  

Krishna Sagar Rao’s accusations on KCR Govt

The BJP leader has said that Telangana Chief Minister KCR is being irresponsible by keeping quiet on the matter. He told news agency ANI, "Telangana is in a dire financial situation and the State is almost bankrupt. Due to the lack of funds, KCR is looking to liquidate the assets of government corporations. This is why he is eyeing the assets of RTC corporations and allowing the strike to continue. Is it not his responsibility to initiate discussions with the protesting workers? The revenues of the State have decreased. There is not even enough money for welfare programs in the State. There is a huge confrontation ahead.”

Krishna Sagar Rao attacks Congress 

Apart from KCR, Krishna Sagar Rao also targeted the Congress party in the State for not taking a stand on the ongoing protests in Telangana. He said, “Congress Party in Telangana is no more an opposition. In the last 16 days, the entire State is falling apart because of the TSRTC strike but the Congress is nowhere to be seen. Only BJP is fighting for people and TSRTC employees.” He further asked the Congress party, “Have you made a deal with the Chief Minister? There is possibly an alliance between them. That is why Congress is not participating in the protests.”

The strike 

Over 49,000 workers have been on strike since October 5, demanding the merger of the RTC with the government. The TSRTC manages state-run buses across Telangana. According to reports, ever since the beginning of the strike, more than 2,000 busses have remained grounded in the State. However, the Transport Minister of Telangana, Puvvada Ajay Kumar, in an earlier statement clarified that “Adequate number of buses are plying, and the focus now is on the collection of bus ticket charges.” After the TSRTC employee, Srinivas Reddy, who allegedly died after immolating himself, the protests also broke out in different parts of the city and other places. The employees have also been raising slogans and holding the State Government responsible for the death of the employee.
