Kerala celebrates Onam, politicians across India extend wishes
On the occasion of the Onam festival, politicians across the country including the President and Home Minister have extended their wishes to the people.
The harvest festival of Onam is being celebrated with great pomp across Kerala and other parts of India. On the occasion of the festival, politicians across the country have taken to social media and have extended their wishes to the people.
Politicians extend Onam wishes
President of India, Ram Nath Kovind shared his wishes on Twitter. Here's what he said:
"My best wishes to all, especially the Malayalee brothers and sisters in India and abroad. May the Harvest Festival bring joy and prosperity to the lives of each and every one of us."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared his wishes. He said that that:
"May this festival shower happiness, peace and prosperity all around."
Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal took to Twitter and shared his wishes. Goyal tweeted out a picture and urged people to spread happiness. Here's his tweet:
Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan too tweeted out his Onam festival wishes to the Indian populace. He said that he hoped the festival brings in health and happiness to everyone.
The honorable Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also took an opportunity to share Onam wishes to everyone. Birla in his tweets asserted that the festival is celebrated with massive fervour across the country. Birla specially mentioned Kerala, as the festival finds its roots in the southern state.

Onam is an annual harvest festival in the state of Kerala in India. The festival is celebrated by Malayalis based in India and other countries across the world. The festival is said to commemorate King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala during the time of Onam. Numerous festivities are observed and carried out during the Onam festival. Some of these include boat races, tiger dances, flower rangoli and music. Onam is also celebrated with Onasadhya which reflects the spirit of the season and its traditions.
