Kerala Floods: Skymet predicts more rainfall, CM Pinarayi Vijayan orders evacuation in red alert areas

Private weather forecaster Skymet has predicted heavy rainfall in Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts for the next 24 hours. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted and urged people to evacuate from areas which have been given a red alert

Kerala is battling serious floods on account of incessant rains. 

Private weather forecaster Skymet has predicted heavy rainfall in Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts for the next 24 hours. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted and urged people to evacuate from areas which have been given a red alert:

Vijayan also asked people to avoid giving out misinformation amid the chaos that has resulted from these floods:

The Kerala Disaster Management Authority also announced that the water-level has increased in Malankara, due to which the shutters had to be opened:

"As the water level of the Malankara Dam is rising, the shutters of the Malankara Dam have to be opened more. Those on the banks of Thodupuzha River warned to be on guard"

In addition, Trissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod have been issued 'Orange Alerts' on Thursday. Meanwhile, the floods have already claimed the lives of two women and as per ground reports, more than 100 people have been evacuated from Malappuram District. Authorities in Malappuram and Wayanad districts have declared holiday for educational institutions including colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Anganwadis and Madrasas. 

Furthermore, NDRF teams are scheduled to reach Wayanad and assist in relief operations. Meanwhile, here are some videos showing the ongoing situation in Kerala:
