The day on which the Pune Police filed a chargesheet against the five arrested accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, a number of huge revelations have come out from the documents which were submitted before the the Pune Sessions Court.

The plot to kill PM Narendra Modi, something which the cops had suspected in June when they accessed a letter from the house of Rona Wilson, one of the accused, was confirmed through the chargesheet in this case.

Along with Rona Wilson, Sudhir Dhawale, Mahesh Raut, Surendra Gadling and Shoma Sen have been named in the 5160 page chargesheet, with the cops also including five other names, including Kishanda Prashant Bose, as accused who are yet to be arrested.

In October, the Supreme Court had stayed the order of the Bombay High Court which had refused to give extension to the Pune police to file chargesheet against the accused in the violence case.

The violence relates to the clashes between two groups on January 1, 2018, during an event which was held to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the battle of Bhima Koregaon. It resulted in death of one person, and as many as 30 people were also injured. Further, there were protests across Maharashtra, many of which became violent.

Months after the incident, the Pune Police arrested the five named accused in relation this case. From Wilson's residence, the letter to assassinate PM Modi was accessed. The assassination plot letter had proposed "concrete steps to end Modi-raj", including:

  • The mention of "Rs 8 crore for annual supply of M4s with 4 lakh rounds"
  • Stating: "We are working to consolidate ties with like-minded organisations, political parties, representatives of minorities across the country"
  • The mention of a proposal of "concrete steps to end Modi-raj" along the lines of "another Rajiv Gandhi type incident". Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had been assassinated on May 21, 1991, by suicide bombing in Sriperumbudur near Chennai. "It sounds suicidal", the letter says about the proposal.
  • The statement: "Targeting his (PM Modi's) road shows could be an effective strategy" the letter states.

These arrests were followed by multi-city raids by the cops, wherein they detained Maoist sympthasisers Varavara Rao, Vernon Gonsalves, Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navlakha and Arun Ferreira.
