Kolkata Doctor Death: All About Sanjay Roy, Man With Multiple Marriages, Arrested In Murder Case
Sanjay Roy, an accused arrested in the rape and murder case of woman doctor working at a state-run hospital in Kolkata hadhistory of failed multiple marriages.

Kolkata: Sanjay Roy, an accused who has been arrested in the rape and murder case of a woman doctor in Kolkata had a history of multiple failed marriages.
Police also found pornographic content on the mobile phone of the accused. Roy was working as a civic volunteer on the police welfare board.
Accused Joined Kolkata Police’s Disaster Management Group In 2019
Roy began volunteering with Kolkata Police’s disaster management group in 2019 but later transitioned to the police welfare cell. Subsequently, he was assigned to the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he gained access to all departments.
Civic volunteers are contractual staff hired to support police officers in tasks such as traffic management and disaster response. They receive a monthly payment of approximately Rs 12,000.
Roy was allegedly involved in a scheme at the hospital where he charged patients' relatives for securing admissions. Additionally, if a bed was unavailable at the government hospital, he would charge them for finding a bed at nearby nursing homes.
Sanjay Roy Used To Introduce Himself As Cop
Despite not being a regular cop, Roy would introduce himself as a Kolkata Police personnel and roam in a t-shirt with KP (Kolkata Police) written on it. His bike too had a KP tag. He often used his contacts to stay at the police barracks. Many other civic volunteers thought he was actually a cop, reports said.
‘Hang Me If You Want’
Without any regrets, Roy admitted to the crime. “Hang me if you want”, he told the cops.
Doctor Murdered In Kolkata
The post-graduate trainee doctor was found raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.
Medical Fraternity Outraged
The tragic incident has led to widespread outrage and protests. The Federation of Resident Doctors Associations (FORDA) has called for a nationwide halt of elective services, including OPD, wards, and elective OT's, in hospitals on August 12 to support the residents of RG Kar Medical College. Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Lady Hardinge Medical College, and Maulana Azad Medical College will suspend elective services in solidarity.
