Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray sparks controversy
Veer Savarkar has been in the news recently with Uddhav Thackeray sparking off controversy after stating that he would've 'beaten' Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar with a 'shoe' over his infamous 2018 remark on Veer Savarkar. The Shiv Sena chief speaking on the sidelines of the launch of a biography titled 'Savarkar: Echoes From A Forgotten Past', also stated that Pakistan would not have been formed if Savarkar was the Prime Minister of the country. Back in 2018, Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar claimed that Savarkar coined the term 'Hindutva'. Moreover, he added that it was Savarkar, who was the first one to propose the two-nation theory, instead of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
The statement made by the Congress leader:
Aiyar had said, "Present situation in India is an aberration. In 1923, a man called VD Savarkar invented a word which doesn't exist in any religious text, 'Hindutva'. So the first proponent of the two-nation theory was the ideological guru of those who is currently in power in India."
NCP's Majeed Memon questions Thackeray
In an effort to dismiss the claims of Pakistan never being formed if Savarkar was the Prime Minister of the country made by Uddhav Thackeray, Majeed Memon asked whether Savarkar was worth becoming the Prime Minister of the nation at the time. He questioned Savarkar's abilities, asking if he would have been able to acquire the position of the leader of the nation at that point of time or if that as a consequence would lead to Jinnah not being able to succeed in building Pakistan. Majeed Memon notifies that these discussions are completely futile and they would only lead to 'hypothetical situations', with no consequential answers. Furthermore, he stated that in today's political scenario, these are discussions that are not relevant to the current issues in hand.
