"I don't want to be the next victim", read placards carried by several women medics who were part of a march here on Saturday to protest against the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at a state-run hospital in Kolkata last week. Hundreds of medics, including doctors and resident doctors, wearing stethoscopes over their white aprons, started their march from the Lady Hardinge Medical College on the sixth day of their agitation over the incident and to press for their demands such as a central law to check violence against healthcare personnel.

The ongoing strike by government resident doctors in Maharashtra will continue with their association on Saturday rejecting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's appeal to call off the protests over the Kolkata rape-murder even as private medicos joined the stir, affecting health services.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Saturday accorded sanction for the prosecution of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment 'scam’, giving a major jolt to the nearly 15-month-old Congress government.

Hours later, the Karnataka Cabinet, at a specially convened meeting this evening under the leadership of Siddaramaiah, condemned the Governor's decision, termed it as "politically motivated", and vowed to wage a legal fight.

Following the backing of the cabinet and the party, the Chief Minister questioned as to why he should resign, and said the Governor has to quit, because he acted like a "puppet" in the hands of the Government of India.

Vinesh Phogat returns to grand welcome after Paris heartbreak

 Champion wrestler Vinesh Phogat arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here on Saturday following the heartbreak in Paris Olympics where she was disqualified for being overweight after reaching the 50kg final.

There was a thick security cover as Phogat, who was found 100 grams overweight on the day of her bout earlier this month, landed in the national capital.

Evidence tampered, poor facilities: NCW panel reveals major lapses in Kolkata Rape-Murder

The National Commission for Women (NCW) Inquiry Committee identified lapses in security, infrastructure, and investigation concerning the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata last week.  The NCW has alleged that the site (RG Kar Medical College) in Kolkata where the post-graduate trainee doctor was reportedly raped and murdered was abruptly renovated, raising concerns about evidence tampering. The commission noted that the crime scene should have been immediately sealed by the police. The hospital was also found to lack basic amenities for female medical staff, including poorly maintained washrooms, inadequate lighting, and a complete absence of security measures.

Train Driver Reveals the Cause of Derailment of Sabarmati Express

After the derailment of at least 22 coaches of the Sabarmati Express (train number 19168) early Saturday near Govindpuri Station in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the driver has disclosed the cause of the accident.

According to the train's driver, a boulder hit the engine leading to the derailment of the train. This impact caused significant damage to the engine’s cattle guard. Meanwhile, The Indian Railways is currently investigating the incident
