Lok Sabha Speaker OM Birla will chair an all-party meeting on Saturday ahead of the winter Parliament session. The sessions will commence on Monday. The meeting is being held to ensure the smooth functioning of the Parliament. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi is also expected to convene an all-party meeting on November 17.
Personal Data Protection Bill to be introduced
The Winter Parliament sessions will likely see the opposition parties raising the issues of their concerns, meanwhile, the BJP is expected to take forward its legislative agenda during the session and several bills. According to reports, the BJP is expected to introduce the Personal Data Protection Bill that bill deals with the handling and processing of consumer data by corporate entities while introducing restrictions and penalties.
Another bill that is expected to be taken up by the Parliament during the sessions is the regularising of 1,728 unauthorised colonies in the National capital. The Parliament session will end on December 13. According to sources, the Government will also bring up a bill to replace taxation laws (Amendment) Ordinance,2019 on corporate rate cuts.
Landmark bills passed in Monsoon Parliament session
It will be the second session since Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to the office with a bigger majority for a second successive term. The last Monsoon Parliament session saw some crucial bills being passed such as Triple Talaq, National Investigation Agency Act including the landmark bill of the scrapping of Article 370 in the state of Jammu and Kashmir and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act. It remains to be seen whether the BJP-led government introduces the Citizenship Amendment Bill or the final list of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the Winter sessions.
