Maharashtra: Section 144 imposed in Pune Rural after violence reported in several places

Section 144 was imposed in Pune Rural on Sunday because of violence in several parts of Maharastra over reports of a mosque being vandalised in Tripura.

Section 144 was imposed in Pune Rural on Sunday in view of violence in several parts of Maharastra over reports of a mosque being damd and vandalised in Kakraban area of Gomati district in Tripura. 

On Friday, Muslim outfits took out a rally in protest of alleged violent incidents in Tripura at Maharastra's Amravati, Malegaon, Nanded, Yavatmal and Washim. In Amravati, over 8,000 people gared outside collector's office demanding that atrocities against mirities in rastern state be stopped. When y were leaving office, stone-pelting took place at three locations between Chitra Chowk and Cotton Market under limits of Kotwali police station. Later on Saturday, in protest against rallies organised by Muslim organisations, BJP organised a bandh. During bandh, an angry mob took to streets and hurled stones at shops.  police baton-charged to bring situation under control.

reafter,  police issued orders imposing curfew in Amravati under CrPc sections 144 (1), (2) and (3) to prevent any untoward incident. As per order, a garing of more than five people is banned. Except for emergencies, people are t allowed to venture outside. Also, internet services have been suspended for next three days, starting at 10 pm on Saturday. 

Maharashtra's Home Minister taking cognisance of incident, said, "We will definitely investigate this. We will investigate rallies that were taken out in Maharashtra over incidents that may or may t have taken place in Tripura, we will also assess dams. I'll tell you more after reports come."

MHA says reports of mosque vandalisation in Tripura fake

On Saturday,  Ministry of Home Affairs called reports of a mosque being vandalised and damd in Tripura 'fake, and a complete misrepresentation of facts.'

" mosque in Dargabazar area of Kakraban has t been damd and Tripura Police in Gomati district is working to maintain peace and tranquillity,” said Ministry of Home Affairs. “re is reported case of dam of structure of any Masjid in Tripura in recent past. re is report of simple or grievous injury or rape or death of any person in se incidents as alleged in some social media posts,” it added.

Referring to violence that has broken out in Maharashtra, Ministry said, "re have been reports of violence and unsavoury statements that are aimed at disturbing peace and harmony, based on fake news regarding Tripura. This is very concerning and it is urged that peace is maintained at all costs."
