Welcome To Mamata Banerjee’s Islamic Caliphate of West Bengal: Amit Malviya Calls Out TMC Govt For Muslim Appeasement
BJP's IT Cell chief Amit Malviya tore apart Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government after it cancelled allocated Vishwakarma off to extend Eid-ul-Fitar holidays.

- Mamata Banerjee's govt has landed in a controversy after it cancelled Vishwakarma Puja off to extend Eid holiday.
- In an official notice, Kolkata Municipal Corporation mentioned that Vishwakarma off was cancelled to extend Eid holiday.
- BJP has hit out at Mamata government over its latest move and accused TMC of indulging in appeasement politics.
Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee -led West Bengal Government has once again landed itself in a controversy over its appeasement politics towards a particular religion after her administration cancelled official holiday allocated for Vishwakarma Puja to adjust and extend one more leave for Eid festival.
In an official notification of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Education Department, the government said that the allocated holiday for the Vishwakarma Puja on 31-07-2025 has been adjusted to extend the holiday for Eid-ul-Fitar on 31-03-2025 and 01-4-2025.
Targeting the TMC over its latest move to cancel the Vishwakarma puja holiday, the BJP hit out at the Mamata government after party's IT cell chief Amit Malviya took a dig saying, “Welcome to Mamata Banerjee’s Islamic Caliphate of West Bengal.”
In a long note on X, formerly Twitter, Amit Malviya accused the Mamata government and CM's close aide Firhad Hakim for having anti-OBC mindset.
“Firhad Hakim, Mamata Banerjee’s close aide and a modern-day Suhrawardy, has ordered the scrapping of a holiday in Kolkata Municipal Corporation schools for Vishwakarma Puja—an occasion of great significance for Hindus, particularly the dominant OBCs—and instead allocated it for Eid-ul-Fitar, extending the holiday from one day to two,” Amit Malviya said.
Amit Malviya informed that earlier, Chief Minister unilaterally slashed reservations under the OBC sub-quota and arbitrarily included Muslims, denying OBCs their rightful dues.
The Calcutta High Court had rightly struck it down, and the matter is now being heard in the Supreme Court. The BJP will ensure justice as per constitutional provisions, the BJP leader said.
Now cancelling the Vishwakarma Puja off for Eid-ul-Fitar in Kolkata Municipal Corporation schools not only exposes Mamata Banerjee’s anti-OBC mindset but also confirms her nervousness, Malviya said and added, “She knows the Muslim vote bank she once took for granted is slipping, even in the Greater Kolkata Region."
“What she doesn’t understand is that Muslims don’t need endless holidays—they need education and employment. An additional day off means a loss of daily wages for Muslims, most of whom work as casual labourers in Bengal. It also deprives Hindus of their rightful observances,” Amit Malviya concluded.
Mamata's appeasement destroying Bengal's social fabric, says Amit Malviya
Further hitting at the West Bengal government, BJP leader Amit Malviya said, “Mamata Banerjee’s Muslim appeasement is destroying West Bengal’s social fabric. If she continues in office, in a few years, it will be difficult to recognise whether our Bengal is still the land of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Netaji, and Syama Prasad Mookerjee…”
What Kolkata Municipal Corporation notice says
In its notice, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Education department on February 25 said that Edi-ul-Fitar holiday will be for two days from 31-03-2025 to 01-04-2025. There will be no holiday for Biswakarma Puja (Vishwakarma Puja) on 17-09-2025 as one day from its allocated off has been adjusted to extend the Eid-ul-Fitar holiday.
TMC Govt's Vishwakarma controversy after Mamata ‘Mrityukumbh’ remark
This is the second time in a week when Mamata Banerjee is facing the outrage over her anti-sanatan actions. Last week, the Bengal Chief Minister erupted a row after she referred the ongoing Mahakumbh festival as ‘Mrityukumbh', drawing her remark days after the stampede incident. And now, days later, her government cancelled a designated off for Vishwakarma Puja to add an additional holiday on Eid-ul-Fitar.
