MASSIVE: Maldives to accord PM Modi the 'Order of Nishan Izzuddeen' - its highest honour for a foreign dignitary

On the day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Maldives, President of the Island Nation Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced to confer the highest honour which is accorded to foreign dignitaries to PM Modi during his visit.

On the day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the Maldives, President of the Island Nation Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced to confer the highest honour which is accorded to foreign dignitaries to PM Modi during his visit.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Maldives Abdulla Shahid stated that "The Most Honourable Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddeen" will be accorded to PM Modi during his visit to the Island nation.

Previously, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Russia have honoured Prime Minister Modi with the highest civilian award. On April 11, the Russian Embassy decorated PM Modi with "Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle - the highest state decoration of Russia for the exceptional services in promoting the special and privileged strategic partnership between Russian and India.

PM Modi has also been was honoured by the UAE government, with President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan conferring the Zayed Medal on him. The Zayed Medal - the UAE's highest civilian honour, awarded to kings, Presidents, and heads of states - was conferred on PM Modi for boosting relations between the Emirates and India. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, who called PM Modi his 'dear friend' and credited him with playing a pivotal role in reinforcing the historical and comprehensive strategic ties with India.

Meanwhile, PM Modi is set to begin his maiden visit to the Maldives after swearin-in as the Prime Minister for the second term on Saturday. Earlier on Friday, he took to Twitter to thank Maldivian President Solih for inviting him to the Republic of Maldives.
