Mayapuri: 9 cows rescused from inhumane conditions in New Delhi

The Delhi Police has rescued 9 cows on September 14, 2019. The cows were being transported illegally in a tempo in the Mayapuri locality of West Delhi

The Delhi Police has recused 9 cows on September 14, 2019. The cows were being transported illegally in a tempo in the Mayapuri locality of West Delhi, officials said. Two police personnel were patrolling the area on their bike when at 4 am they spotted a tempo that was fully covered, they added. Upon suspicion, the policemen asked the driver to stop the vehicle, instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and tried to flee.

Men standing on the back of tempo pelted stones at the police 

They chased the driver of the vehicle on their bike. However, there were about 3 men standing on the back of the tempo who began pelting stones at them, police said. During the chase, the tempo hit the bike and led to the policemen falling down and suffering minor injuries. The policemen fired 5 shots at the tyres of the tempo but they managed to flee away, said a senior police officer.

Cows were rescued from inhumane conditions

A little while later, the police succeeded in finding the tempo at Bali Nagar and rescued 9 cows that had been tied with ropes and were unwell, the officer added. The cows were sent to the Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Hospital for treatment. Efforts are on to nab the accused, he said, further adding that a case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the IPC and section 3 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Section 3 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act state that the Duties of persons having charge of animals, implies that it shall be the duty of every person having the care or charge of any animal to take all reasonable measures to ensure the well-being of such animals, and to prevent the infliction upon such animal of unnecessary pain or suffering.
