Mistakes in a leave application alarmed Dev Kumar Verma and that led his mission to provide education to the needy. Verma was on election duty in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district when he found this letter tucked in the school bench which served as a make-shift polling booth.

This episode sowed the idea of free education, thereafter 'Dev ki Pathshala' (the name of his school) evolved. Having had a humble beginning himself and he now strives to educate children belonging to the economically weaker section of the country. Verma embarked on his journey with his ancestral home, which was first a tuition centre and was later converted into a school.

His salary was the capital for his pilot project that began in Jharkhand's Dhanbad, currently he manages three schools that run classes upto class five. Along with free education he also provides students with essential stationery and meals. Verma with the support of his wife has been successful in educating the kids, the couple also ensures the students get transportation facilities. 

His second school project took off with the help of well-wisher who supported his noble cause through a crowdfunding portal. The website helped him raise a sum of Rs.6 lakh and soon he built the school, it was erected in three months.

Dev Kumar Verma is of the belief that 'helping hands are way better than praying lips.'

Talking about the help, Dev also emphasised on how his friends and colleagues have come forth to lend their support to the cause by donating clothes, and books to his students. Many have even come forth to fund his mission.

Having worked relentlessly to empower kids and make a difference to the lives, the parents of these children are grateful to Dev his efforts to shaped them for a better tomorrow.
