A group of people attending the Sunday mass in a remote area of Kolhapur's Kowad village was attacked on December 23, three days before Christmas, by a group of unidentified men. The attack on the Sunday mass prayer left 12 injured with a number of them receiving serious injuries. They were immediately admitted to a private hospital in the district.

Sources have told Republic TV that the victims were holding the Sunday mass prayer in a rented room in the village where approximately 20 people entered and attacked the mass using iron rods, knifes and choppers, leaving 12 people injured.

Speaking to reporters in the case, Kolhapur SP Abhinav Deshmukh said, 'it was not an attack for robbery. But we are suspecting that attackers may belong to radical right-wing groups".

Police further said the faces of the attackers were covered with masks, making it even more hard to identify them. However, they are suspecting that all the attackers hail from Karnataka's Belgavi district.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra police have launched a search operation to nab the attackers. They have also taken the CCTV footage of the area into account. Police have sought the help of the Karnataka Police in order to catch hold of the attackers.
