MP Police recover Rs 13.7 lakhs from vehicle as EC calls to ensure playing field

Madhya Pradesh Police seized Rs 13,72,000 from a vehicle in the Civil Lines neighbourhood of Chhatarpur district on Friday. The police claimed that a sizable amount was found in a vehicle during rigorous vehicle checking that was being done ahead of the assembly elections in the state. The vehicle has been impounded by the police, who also seized the total sum of money. They are also looking into any potential political ties to the money, which has been seized. Along with the money, some documents were also recovered by the police, which are being examined. Kamlesh Sahu, police station in-charge at Civil Lines, while speaking to the news agency ANI said, "Today during vehicle checking, Rs 13 lakh and 72 thousand have been recovered from a vehicle, which has been seized by the Civil Lines Police. The money recovered is being investigated to see if it has any political connection. The investigation is still going on. During the meeting, the Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar asked them to verify that the threat of money power was adequately managed before issuing the calendar for assembly elections in five states.The day-long gathering of the Election Commission's police, general, and expenditure observers was intended to streamline tactics in order to ensure that the model code is applied successfully and that money and power do not distort the playing field.Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Mizoram, and Rajasthan are scheduled to hold their assembly elections in November or December.According to Kumar, the observers were “directed to ensure that the polls were free from violence and the menace of money power is thoroughly controlled.”The commission has currently assessed the states of Rajasthan, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh's election readiness. The election dates in the five states will probably be announced by the poll panel in the coming days.
