A 28-year old passenger, who had a fight with two men over a minor issue in a moving harbour local train was pulled away by them to a slum at Mankhurd. Rajendra Kochrekar, the victim was then assaulted by those two men and suffered head injuries. The Vashi Government Railway Police (GRP) has lodged an FIR but no arrest has been made so far.
The two men created nuisance in the passage of the train compartment
The incident happened on September 23 when Kochrekar was returning from his place of work at Juinagar. He got into a second class compartment of a CSMT bound local and was alight at Mankhurd, where he lives. The two men started creating nuisance in the passage of the compartment around 6:30 pm and accidentally kicked Kochrekar, who was standing nearby. Kochrekar said, “I turned towards them and said ‘kya kar raha hai’ (what are you doing)? It angered the men and one of them slapped me. We got into an argument and I was putting my phone away when the other man also slapped me. I retaliated and we had a scuffle in the compartment.”
Kochrekar was dragged to a slum colony
Till then, Mankhurd had arrived and the two men insisted that Kochrekar accompany them to the railway police station to lodge a complaint. Kochrekar said that he agreed as he wanted the police to sort out the matter and they got off at platform number 2. He added that the men started to lead him outside the railway station. A suspicious Kochrekar asked them where were they taking him but they dragged him to a slum colony nearby. He said he tried to resist but he failed.
The two men were joined by four more men and together they beat up Kochrekar. One of them even picked up a tile and hit him on his head. Kochrekar said that he started bleeding and stumbled his way back to the railway station after a group of women in the slums noticed the brawl and chased the attackers away. A few photographs of the subjects have been handed over to the GRP after making some inquiries he said.
According to the police, only two men were involved in the assault. “We accompanied Kochrekar to the location where he was attacked. We are investigating the matter and will make arrests soon,” said a senior officer.
