CM Eknath Shinde Urges Mumbaikars To Not Leave Home As Mumbai Rains Bring City to Standstill

As Mumbai witnesses record-breaking rainfall today causing waterlogging, traffic disruptions, CM Eknath Shinde urges citizens to leave home only if necessary.

Mumbai: The financial capital of India has been experiencing record-breaking rainfall since yesterday evening causing massive traffic jams and transport disruptions across the city.

Waterlogging has been reported in several areas including Dadra, Vile Parle East and King's Circle among others; local train services are delayed and a lot of flights have also been cancelled.

A holiday for schools and colleges has been declared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and travel advisories have been issued by the different airlines and the Mumbai International Airport. CM Eknath Shinde has also made an appeal to all the Mumbaikars.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde's Appeal To Mumbaikars

Amid the chaos caused by the Mumbai Rains, Maharashtra CM Ekanth Shinde has urged the citizens to remain in their homes and leave only if very necessary.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, the Maharashtra CM said, “Citizens should go out only if necessary. I am also appealing to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation, Police Administration and Emergency Services to cooperate.”

‘All Emergency Services on High Alert’: CM

In his post, the Maharashtra CM has also said, “Life has been disrupted in Mumbai due to heavy rains everywhere. There is a traffic jam on the road and the traffic on the railway line has also been affected. The work of removing water from the track is going on by the railway administration and efforts are on to restore the traffic soon. I have directed all emergency agencies to be on high alert.”

Mumbai Airport Issues Advisory

An advisory has been issued by the Mumbai Airport as 50 flights have been cancelled as of now and several others have been delayed. In a statement, Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport said, “Today heavy rains and low visibility led to the suspension of runway operations from 2:22 am to 3:40 am. 27 flight diversions were reported. Flights diverted to Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Indore, etc. Currently, priority is being given to arrivals, delaying departures, and consequential changes that were made to accommodate diverted flights.”
