Mumbai Rains: Thunderstorms over Arabian Sea and neighbouring areas

Heavy rainfall gripped Mumbai City yet again on Wednesday. Following the unprecedented downpour, traffic movement in the city was severely affected.

Heavy rainfall gripped Mumbai city yet again on Wednesday. Following the unprecedented downpour, traffic movement in the city was severely affected. In addition, several streets and main roads were water-logged in the early hours of Wednesday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that a massive thunderstorm is hovering over the Arabian Sea and neighbouring regions.

Heavy rainfall in Mumbai

The IMD tweeted a picture of the thunderstorm over the Arabian Sea. In its tweet, it said:

"Very Severe Cyclonic Storm HIKAA over the Arabian Sea."

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation also announced that rainfall will likely occur in parts of the metropolis

Skymet Weather predicts more rains

Private weather forecaster Skymet Weather said the city recorded heavy rainfall overnight and between 5:30 am to 6:30 am. According to Skymet data, 27 mm of rainfall was received in just three hours. Overall, 67 mm of rainfall followed. Apart from the usual showers, thunders and lightning was also witnessed in few parts of the city. Visuals from surrounding areas gave a picture of the heavy downpour.

Skymet has confirmed that more rains are likely to follow

It also confirmed that water-logging will occur thereby, affecting traffic movement. Previously, Mumbai had received heavy rains on September 19 and 21. Since then only light, isolated rains were witnessed in the city.
