Nagpur Psychologist Arrested For Allegedly Blackmailing, Sexually Exploiting Over 50 Students
A 45-year-old psychologist was arrested in Nagpur for allegedly blackmailing and sexually exploiting at least 50 of his students over the past 15 years
Nagpur: A 45-year-old psychologist was arrested in Nagpur on Monday for allegedly blackmailing and sexually exploiting at least 50 of his students over the past 15 years. The arrest follows a police investigation into claims made by several victims who came forward with disturbing allegations against the accused. The psychologist, who operated both a private clinic and a residential program in east Nagpur, is accused of abusing his position of trust to exploit vulnerable students. Authorities revealed that the accused allegedly used blackmail to silence his victims, making threats to ruin their reputations or careers if they reported his actions.
The police have charged the accused under multiple sections, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as some of the victims were minors at the time of the alleged exploitation. Additionally, the accused faces charges under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as some of the victims belong to these communities.
A police official from Hudkeshwar Police Station confirmed the arrest and stated that further investigations are underway to determine the full extent of the psychologist's alleged crimes. The authorities are also working to identify any additional victims and gather further evidence.
The case has shocked the community, with many questioning how the accused managed to carry out such alleged activities for so long. Police are urging anyone who may have been affected to come forward and report any further incidents.
"The psychologist allegedly lured students, particularly girls, with promises of personal and professional development. He organised trips and camps where he would sexually abuse them, take explicit photos, and later use these to blackmail them. The incident came to light after a former student, who was being blackmailed by the accused, approached the police," the police official said.
Several victims are married and may be hesitant to approach police to file complaints, the official added.
Police have formed a special committee to assist victims and ensure a thorough investigation.
