BJP spokesperson Nalin Kohli, on Monday, said that US President Donald Trump’s participation in the 'Howdy Modi!' event in Houston shows that India's global prestige has increased under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This comes after President Trump confirmed his visit to Texas and Ohio in a press statement. The statement said, “It (Modi-Trump joint rally) will be a great opportunity to emphasize the strong ties between the people of the United States and India. It would reaffirm the strategic partnership between the world's oldest and largest democracies, and to discuss ways to deepen their energy and trade relationship.”
Nalin Kohli explained the significance of President Trump’s confirmation
The BJP Spokesperson said, “This indeed is a very important development that President Donald Trump will be participating and meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Howdy Modi! event in Houston, Texas. Most importantly, it is recognition of testimony to the fact that India's global prestige has expanded enormously, under the Modiji's leadership”. The event will be attended by approximately 50,000 people, which is to be held at the NRG Stadium in Houston and is being hosted by the Texas India Forum. Kohli added that,
“This not only reflects the strengthening of the two leaders and the two countries but simultaneously recognition of the contribution of Indo-American community towards the growth of America and building the bridges between the two countries”.
The Houston event
The Houston event - 'Howdy Modi!' will be Modi's third major address to the Indian American community after he became the Prime Minister in 2014 and the first after his re-election in May. The previous two were at the Madison Square Garden in New York in 2014 and the Silicon Valley in 2016. Both the events were attended by more than 20,000 people. The event is being organised by a non-profit Texas India Forum, a recently-formed representative body of hundreds of Indian American organisations in Texas and other parts of the US. This would also be the first time that an American President would be addressing thousands of Indian Americans at one place in the US. The press statement released by President Trump’s office added that Trump will be accompanied by a bipartisan delegation of Governors, Members of Congress, Mayors and other public officials.
