Navi Mumbai: Butcher Detained After Photo of Goat Scribbled With 'Ram' Goes Viral Ahead of Bakrid

Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Police has registered a complaint against the owner of a meat shop after his photo with a goat with ‘Ram’ name scribbled on it surfaced on social media.

According to a social media user who posted it on X, the goat with the Hindu deity’s name was set to be sold ahead of the Eid al-Adha (Bakri Eid) festival.

Meat Shop Owner Detained

According to sources, the meat shop owner has been detained. The incident has sparked online outrage with many citing that it was an attempt to incite hatred among two communities.

In the photo, a white-coloured goat can be seen with ‘Ram’ name inscribed on its skin in yellow colour.

Voicing concerns, A social media user, Hindutva Knight, called it outrageous and wrote, “This is outrageous. A goat sold by "Good luck mutton store" with Ram name written on it. Goat will be slaughtered on bakrid in open to deliberately incite Hindu community. Requesting @Navimumpolice @MumbaiPolice to take strong action for deliberately causing law & order issue.”

Another X user @majak_kar_raha while replying to the original post wrote, “@Navimumpolice @ThaneCityPolice @mieknathshinde please take strict action on these people trying to incite hatred among community.

The post caught attention of Navi Mumbai police who replied saying a case has been registered in this regard at CBD Belapur Police Station.

“In accordance with the said complaint, a case has been registered under CBD Belapur Police Station Crime Register No. 123/2024,” The Navi Mumbai Police wrote in Marathi.
