Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested two more armed killers as Delhi witnessed its third encounter in the last 48 hours. As per police sources, the third shooting incident took place in the Shahdara area of East Delhi on Tuesday Morning. The arrested accused were identified as Taj Mohammed alias Taju (21), a resident of Muzzafar Nagar in UP and Liyakat Ali (48), a resident of Sonepat in Haryana.
"The two gangsters were on their way to kill a man when they were overpowered by the police," DCP of Special Cell, Sanjiv Yadav told Republic TV.
"We were working on the input. We received a tip about these 2 contract killers who were on their way to kill somebody. We were able to trace the location of the incident and a team was immediately formed to lay the trap for the criminals," a senior police official said.
According to the authorities, the accused were intercepted near the Shahdara area. Upon confrontation, the police asked the shooters to surrender but, the shooters launched an open fire on the cops. The police launched a counter-attack in response to the open firing by the criminals.
Attempt to murder case lodged against the accused
The process to nab the criminals went on for about 30 minutes, during which, one accused was injured from a gunshot. During the shoot out, local police had cordoned the area for civilians to avoid any casualty. A case of attempt to murder has been lodged with the Special Cell. The criminals will be produced before Patiala House Court where the police will seek remand to investigate the gang and the incident into detail.
During the interrogation, the accused told the police that they were on their way to execute a contract killing. They were given money by a businessman to kill his rival. The two arrested contract killers confessed that they were on their way to carry out a contract killing of a businessman and that they were paid by his rival to kill the target.
The two accused operated from Delhi NCR and have had previous cases of murder registered against them. When asked who was the target of the contract killers, the police refused to reveal any further information as the matter was still under investigation.
