Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman who rarely shares personal posts on the social media, on the occasion of Daughter's Day posted an old photo about her daughter Parakala Vangmayi and herself together. Former cricketer and Lok Sabha member Gautam Gambhir on Sunday wished his daughters on the occasion of Daughter's Day. US Embassy in India tweets on Daughter's Day

On the occasion of Daughter's Day the US Embassy in India also tweeted wishing all women. It shared a picture of school children to wish women on the occasion.

Daughters' Day in India

Daughter's Day, a designated day to celebrate the importance of the girl-child. It is celebrated every fourth Sunday of September in India. World Daughter's Day is celebrated on September 28. The significance of this day is that it serves as a reminder of the fact that daughters are an asset to our society and there should not be any patriarchal notions attached to their birth. Initially, Daughter's Day was celebrated to erase this stigma, this is mostly the case in developing countries where daughters are seen as a burden, on account of cultural practices like giving of dowry, etc
