The religious denomination, Nirmohi Akhara, on Monday has categorically stated that they have not asked for any resumption in the Ayodhya mediation process. This comes after the Ayodhya mediation committee asked for the permission of the Supreme Court to resume the mediation process. The committee has stated that the religious parties have approached them seeking to resume the talks. However, Nirmohi Akhara has reiterated that they do not require any mediator panel and only if the apex court wants them to directly talk to the Sunni Wakf Board, they will do it. They have also said that they are not ready to delay the case proceedings currently ongoing in the Supreme Court.
SC received a resumption request on Monday
On Monday, the apex court received a short memorandum filed by the Ayodhya mediation committee seeking its permission to resume talks in the Ayodhya land dispute case. The memorandum submitted by the panel mentioned that the religious parties have not been able to find a solution to the ongoing dispute. Thus, they have approached the panel seeking to resume the talks of negotiation for settlement in the Ayodhya dispute. They also mentioned that they do not want the day-to-day hearing of the case to stop. However, Nirmohi Akhara has rubbished the claims stating that they did not approach the mediation panel with such request.
The mediation process
The Ayodhya mediation committee is headed by Justice FM Kalifulla, senior advocate Sriram Panchu, and spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. In March, the apex court had referred the matter to the panel of mediators and had asked them to hold in-camera proceedings. They were given the time of eight weeks to address the case. However, later, the deadline was extended till August 15 by the Supreme Court because they did not want to short-circuit the mediation efforts. Later, an application was filed claiming that the committee was not making a progress and the Judge bench led by the CJI should resume the hearings.
Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case hearing
In a massive setback to the Ayodhya land dispute, the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on August 2 declared that the Ayodhya mediation panel has failed. The court then began day-to-day hearings from August 6. Earlier, the three-member Ayodhya mediation panel submitted its status report to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover, complying with the orders of the apex court on July 11. The apex court, however, declared that the mediation process ineffective.
