Odisha students construct 6.9 m long fishing bait from metal waste, eye Guinness record

In an attempt to build the World's largest fishing lure, students from the Berhampur Industrial Training Institute (ITI) have built a 6.9 meter-long fishing bait from metal waste, according to reports. The Principal of the institute Rajat Kumar Panigrahy has reportedly applied to the Guinness Book of World Records for verification of the record. More than 100 students had reportedly worked for 40 days to construct the structure.
World's largest fishing bait
Reports state that the fishing bait is 6.9 meters long, 91 cm wide and has a 101.6 cm hook at its bottom. The principal has stated that the students used metal waste from a demolished hostel building. Moreover, the team of students were from the institute's welder, painter and fitter course, as per reports.
The structure which was reportedly completed by 31 December 2019 is part of the institute's “art from waste” museum. It is displayed on the institute's outdoor campus, Currently, the record for the largest fishing lure is held by Ethan Sparks of Texas. His bait is 4.74 metres long, 67.97 cm wide and has a 48.77 cm long hook at its bottom, according to Guinness World Book of records.
World's most side lunges
Earlier on Thursday, Hyderaba's B Sai Deepak set a Guinness World Records for most side lunges in 60 seconds. Deepak scripted the record by doing 59 side lunges in 60 seconds. This is his fourth overall Guinness World Records.
The previous record was held by Pakistan national Irfan Mehsood. The 23-year-old dedicated his achievement to the martyrs. "Currently I hold four Guinness World Records for India. I took 3-4 months to break previous record," he told ANI.
Another group eyeing a Guinness World record in January 2020 is the Sri Lanka Twins Organisation. The group is preparing for the world’s largest twin gathering ever. World Largest Twins’ Gathering and Twins Cultural Evening will be held from January 20-26 and the record will be set during the Sri Lanka Twins Convention at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
The organisation represents 28,000 twin brothers and sisters from across the country and the cultural event will be held to celebrate the uniqueness of twins and multiples. According to the organisation, ‘The Largest Twins Gathering’ event will represent the twins/multiples community and their individuality while making a stand for a brighter and peaceful world. Sri Lanka Twins Organization Founder and Chairman Upuli Gamage has also extended the invitation for the iconic event to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
