Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday said north India is facing a medical emergency due to hazardous air quality caused by stubble burning. Addressing a press conference here, Atishi said the BJP-led central government has been doing politics over the issue of pollution but has taken no step to check stubble burning in states like Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh -- all ruled by the saffron party. The Supreme Court on Monday questioned the Delhi government over delay in implementation of stricter anti-pollution measures under GRAP-4, and said it will not allow scaling down of the preventive measures without its prior permission. A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih pointed out that there was a delay in implementation of preventive measures under stage 4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) even after the Air Quality Index (AQI) touched alarming levels in the national capital. A man allegedly killed his 30-year-old wife by slitting her throat with a sword in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, a police officer said on Monday. The incident took place in Maroli village of Mataundh area on Sunday evening. Deepu Singh (33) attacked Priyanka, when the couple was alone at their house, Station House Officer Sandeep Kumar said. According to Kumar, Deepu was addicted to alcohol and there was some dispute between the couple. Nine people were injured when a man allegedly hit them with his car outside a wedding venue in Dausa district in Rajasthan, police said on Monday. The dense toxic smog caused visibility to drop sharply in the morning. According to officials, visibility at Safdarjung airport was 150 metres. Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 484, the worst this season, at 8 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
