New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday and participated in a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address. PM Modi's Modi's address concentrated on crucial topics like corruption, Bengal violence, NEET scam, inflation, and the Agniveer scheme, all of which have been subjects of discussion in the upper House of Parliament thus far.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Prime Minister addressed the Lok Sabha following which the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die. Speaker Om Birla said it recorded a productivity of 103 per cent.

Prime Minister Modi's address in the Rajya Sabha follows his fierce rebuttal of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha the previous day. The prime minister accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of focusing all their efforts on propagating the notion that the BJP-led NDA lost the 2024 general elections, despite the coalition securing a historic third term.

PM Modi made several jibes Modi made several jabs at Gandhi and the INDI bloc after the Leader of the Opposition was accused of "associating Hinduism with violence" in his response to the Motion of Thanks.

PM Modi said, “They want to talk about Constitution, but not about Emergency. Congress is the biggest opposition to the constitution. They say Emergency is in the past. Are you sins washed away with time.”
“Emergency was not just a political crisis. Along with democratic and Constitutional, it was also a humanitarian crisis. Several people were tortured, several died in the jail,” said PM Modi
PM Modi said, "For me, the fight against corruption is not the scale for electoral wins or losses. I am not fighting corruption to win or lose elections. This is my mission, my conviction. I believe that corruption is one such termite that has hollowed out the nation. I am working wholeheartedly to free this country of corruption and to build hatred against corruption in the minds of common people."

PM Modi schooled Opposition for 'Save Constitution' rant and said, “They (opposition) said that the 2024 election was the first in the country where the primary agenda was to 'save the Constitution.' I want to remind them of the 1977 election. The media was muzzled. The entire country voted to save the constitution in 1977. If this (2024) election was to save the Constitution, then people showed their faith in the NDA to save it.”

Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar slammed the Opposition walkout during PM's speech and called it a “big respect to Constitution”.
During Congress’s tenure, there was a scheme for Rs 60,000 crore farmers' loan waiver but names of the needy small farmers were not even included in the list of beneficiaries.
As Opposition walked out, PM Modi said, "The country is watching that those who spread lies do not have the strength to hear the truth. Those who do not have the courage to face truth, do not have courage to listen to the answers to questions that were raised in these discussions. They are insulting the Upper House, the glorious tradition of the Upper House."

As proceedings of Rajya Sabha began this morning, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhhar offered condolences on the loss of lives in the stampede in Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge called on the government to enact legislation aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. The Chairman asked the leader of the House to work together with LoP so that such events can be avoided.
