The ‘Cash Shower’ in Hyderabad captured the Congress Minister from Karnataka sitting in the front row as notes fall from the sky and pile up like a river bed on the ground. The controversy broken by Republic Kannada comes after the IT raids unearthed a stunning Rs 42 crore mountain of cash in Bengaluru.

In September this year, Textiles and Sugarcane Minister in Karnataka Shivananda Patil faced anger from drought-hit farmers when he said they killed themselves to get Rs 5 lakh compensation. He mocked the hundreds of farmers who are pushed to the brink with neither rain nor crop in a drought year.

Cut to October 15th 2023. This same Congress Minister is seen sitting in Hyderabad. He’s surrounded by wads of notes. Notes inside a fountain. Notes being showered on him. He seems to be enjoying every minute. He sits on a sofa at the centre of the attention of the men showering cash on him. The stunning video accessed by Republic Kannada is reported to have been shot the same day as the Rs 42 crore cash stash was found in Bengaluru. At a time when BJP and Congress are trading charges on whose unexplained hard cash it is, the video of this Minister may put the Congress in a spot.

Now there are cash showers in
Karnataka. Karnataka minister Shivanand Patil admits having a shower with cash. He is the same

hit farmers commit suicide due
to the compensation they are paid". pic.twitter.com/ofglSRbjQg

Seen in the video are Rs 2000 and Rs 500 notes, hundreds and thousands of them lying all over the floor. The minister seated on a sofa is seen placing his feet over these notes. Whose cash was it? Why were 3 Congress ministers present at a cash party in Hyderabad? Are some of the questions being raised.

Republic confronts Patil

When questioned by Republic Kannada, Karnataka Minister Shivananda Patil admitted that it was him at the cash shower party. Patil told Republic Kannada ‘Yes, it was me. I was at a wedding. I couldn’t help that people were showering cash. It’s in their tradition. There’s nothing I could have done.’ The obscene display of cash surfaced days after CM Siddaramiah sought the assistance of Rs. 4,860 crore from the Centre as drought aid.

The game of pointing fingers at each other

Recently, the Karnataka Government faced massive criticism after the Income Tax department conducted raids across multiple locations in the state and seized nearly Rs 94 crore. The Congress, however, blamed BJP for the alleged corruption in the state. “Entire corruption is by BJP only. BJP is the foundation of corruption, that's why the people of Karnataka threw them away. Money that has been found, is linked to BJP leaders and it is nowhere connected to the Congress govt,” said Karnataka Deputy CM Dk Shivakumar in a sharp attack on the saffron party.

BRS leader frames big charge on Karnataka Congress

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the ruling party of Telangana, launched a scathing attack on the Karnataka Congress party, alleging that it intended to transport money to Telangana, which is set to hold Assembly polls on November 30. BRS leader Krishank Manne said, “With recently almost a hundred plus crores of rupees found in the IT raids, in carton boxes ready to be transported from Karnataka, there is a doubt of suspicion. It's because while Telangana Assembly Elections are ahead in a couple of days. Telangana Congress leaders are frequently visiting Karnataka.”

He further stated that Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy had travelled to Karnataka to meet with Congress' DK Shivakumar, who holds no position in the "screening committee of the Congress party and is also not designated as a star campaigner for the Telangana elections."

“But yet, surprisingly, from Revanth Reddy to many Telangana Congress leaders, everyone is visiting Karnataka to meet DK Shivakumar. Now after that, surprisingly in Hyderabad, Karnataka Congress ministers stationed here were found in visuals with crores of rupees. It's definitely raising a doubt of suspicion that Karnataka Congress is funding with all the commission money they have our Assembly Elections.”
