Ex-BSF jawan Tej Bahadur quits JJP over Chautala's alliance with BJP

Former BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav who contested the Haryana Assembly elections from Karnal against Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar resigned from JJP on Saturday. His decision comes after JJP sealed a deal with BJP to form the Haryana government. Taking to Facebook, Tej Bahadur in a video accused the JJP to be BJP's Team B and of betraying the people of Haryana.

"I feel I made a very big mistake in joining JJP," he said in a nearly three-minute-long clip, adding, "​​​​Dushyant Chautala has betrayed the people of Haryana, and those who voted for him by extending support to the BJP. The people who gave the JJP 10 seats did so not because of him or the JJP name, but because of the ideals of Devi Lal (two-time Haryana Chief Minister who is Chautala's great-grandson)."

A failed attempt to fight polls against PM Modi

In the Lok Sabha elections 2019, former BSF soldier Tej Bahadur filed his nomination as a Samajwadi Party candidate from Varanasi constituency. He said that he wants to contest the election against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the Election Commission (EC) cancelled his nomination because he was unable to submit NOC from the BSF. Tej Bahadur, a native of Rewari in Haryana, had posted a video online in 2017, complaining about poor quality of food being served to the troops on the icy heights along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. Following his video, the Summary Security Force Court (SSFC) had dismissed him after a trial.

Haryana elections

After the poll result of Haryana gave a fractured mandate, BJP sealed a deal with Dushyant Chautala's Jannayak Janta Party (JJP). On Saturday, BJP's Manohar Lal Khattar along with Chautala handed over a letter to the Haryana Governor staking their claim to form the next government. While Congress won 31 seats, it was unable to stitch a post-poll alliance. In the aftermath of the election, another controversial leader Gopal Kanda offered to ally with BJP, which the party denied after a massive backlash from the media. The swearing-in ceremony for Haryana's Chief Minister and Deputy CM will be held on Sunday.
