Instances when Congress party made statements against Lord Ram and Hinduism
Congress party's track record proves that its leaders are not exactly pro-Hindu as Shashi Tharoor and P Chidambaram have issued statements against Hinduism.
Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam, on Friday, made some explosive revelations about his party's stance on Hinduism and claimed that some of his colleagues ‘hate’ Lord Ram.
In an interview with ANI, he also said some even hate the word ‘Hindu’ at a time when senior party leaders like Rahul Gandhi is making trips to temples and Digvijaya Singh insists he is “a good Hindu.”
The party's track record, however, proves that the leaders are not exactly pro-Hindu as many MPs including Shashi Tharoor and P Chidambaram have issued statements against the religion.
No historical proof of Ram: Congress in affidavit
One of the earliest example of the party's anti-Hindu stance dates back to 2007 when the Congress-led UPA government submitted an affidavit before the Supreme Court questioning the existence of "characters and events" in Ramayan.
“Valmiki Ramayana and Ramcharitmanas admittedly form an important part of ancient Indian literature, but these cannot be said to be historical records to incontrovertibly prove the existence of the characters and occurrences of events depicted therein,” the affidavit read.
The affidavit drew sharp reaction from the BJP with senior BJP leader LK Advani demanding an apology from then PM Manmohan Singh and former Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
No good Hindu would want Ram Mandir: Shashi Tharoor
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor stoked controversy in 2018 after he said that "no good Hindu would have wanted to see that temple built by demolishing somebody else's place of worship."
He was referring to the Ram Janmabhoomi controversy in Ayodhya and the 1992 demolition of Babri Masjid. The Congress party had, however, distanced itself from Tharoor saying he made those statements in his "personal capacity."
Ayodhya verdict not a right judgment: Chidambaram
Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram had criticised the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi verdict saying it was not the right judgement.
Speaking at the Salman Khurshid's book release event in 2021, Chidambaram said, "Because both sides have accepted it, it is become the right judgement, not the other way around. It’s not a right judgement, which both sides have accepted. Because both sides have accepted it, it has become the right judgement.”
He had also called the demolition of the Babri Masjid in 1992 "terribly wrong."
Temples are not going to create jobs: Sam Pitroda
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi's associate Sam Pitroda stirred controversy after an event in the US in June this year when he attacked the Modi government for only focussing on religious matters.
"We have a problem with unemployment, inflation, education, health. No one talks about these things. But everyone talks about Ram, Hanuman, mandir and I have said that temples are not going to create jobs," Pitroda said.
