A massive protest was staged by the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and National Students' Union of India (NSUI) a few metres away from the official residence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The outrage was owing to the recent raids conducted by tax sleuths in the residence of National Youth Congress president, Srinivas BV. The protesters allege that this was carried out as part of vendetta politics and that agencies are being used as a pawn by BJP to target the opposition constantly.

“BJP doesn’t fight us political issues but hide behind the agencies as a coward to target opposition. They do not have anything to say on the economic slowdown, corruption charges but would rather threaten the opposition leaders via the agencies,” said Media coordinator Amrish Pandey. He also added further, "Our single message to BJP is don’t fight like a coward but fight like a true opponent politically on national issues."

'The governance is failing'

The protesters took symbolism to a different level when they put a man inside a cage and then tried to carry the cage towards the Finance Minister’s house, trying to send out a message that how agencies under BJP rule has become nothing but a caged parrot. The posters of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also set ablaze and slogans were also raised against him and the Finance Minister.

“The governance is failing, so BJP is playing such dirty tricks. This is nothing but vendetta politics by BJP,” added IYC media coordinator Amrish Pandey.

The protesters tried to breach the police barricades and move further ahead. When stopped by the Delhi police and CRPF personnel, the agitators carried out a sit-down protest raising anti-government slogans. Later, the protesters were detained by police and were taken to the nearby police station. Amidst the growing internal rift within congress and the lack of leadership, Congress frontals IYC and NSUI came together to protest against the alleged the arbitrary and vendetta driven raids being carried out on staffers/employees of AICC.
