Maharashtra News Updates: Uddhav Thackeray reaches Matoshree after vacating CM House

Two charter flights have been booked for Guwahati to take MLAs who have decided to side with Eknath Shinde and company, say sources. 

Two-third of 55, i.e., 37 MLAs are needed to get an exemption against the anti-defection law. At present, 34 MLAs, including Eknath Shinde are there. Three more- Gulabarao Patil, Yogesh Kadam, and Mangesh Kudalkar--will join, taking the number to 36, one short of the set number to get exemption from the law. 

One more Sena MLA to leave from Mumbai to Guwahati. Sena MLA Mangesh Kuldalkar will reach the Assam city tomorrow morning and join Eknath Shinde and other rebelling MLAs, informed sources. 

Uddhav Thackeray's loyalist MLAs staying at St Regis Hotel in Mumbai were asked to leave the hotel, and go home, Republic learned through sources in the Shiv Sena. 

The Thackeray family packed their bags and left the CM's official residence the Varsha Bungalow. While leaving, Uddhav Thackeray waved to the cameras. 

BJP's Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga has filed a complaint in Mumbai's Malabar Hill Police station against Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray for violating COVID protocols. Complaint accessed. 

As Uddhav Thackeray's suitcase gets loaded from the CM's residence, Shiv Sena supporters gather in large numbers. 

Minutes after speculations started doing the rounds that Uddhav Thackeray would be moving to Matoshree, Republic accessed pictures of luggage being taken out from the CM's official residence. 

Maharastra BJP Vice President Chitra Kishore Wagh drew attention to AIMIM's Imtiaz Jaleel voicing his support for Uddhav Thackeray. Taking to Twitter, Wagh wrote, "What can be a better testimony of Hindutva thriving in Maharashtra, if AIMIM is supporting Uddhav Thackeray?"

After meeting Uddhav Thackeray at his official residence, Varsha Bungalow, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut left. While Raut was leaving, in a statement to the media, he said, "CM won't resign". 

 Several Shiv Sainiks were seen lining as CM Uddhav Thackeray is set to leave his official residence anytime soon.

Leaving Devendra Fadnavis' residence after a meeting, the BJP MLAs cleared that they have not spoken to rebel Eknath Shinde. Outlining that there is always an internal tussle going on in the Shiv Sena, BJP's Raosaheb Danve said, " The government will topple on its own...We are on wait-and-watch mode."

The meeting between Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, and party MP Supriya Sule concluded at Varsha Bungalow in Mumbai. COVID-positive Thackeray came out to see off Pawar and Sule and even greeted the media. 

Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole voiced his support for Chief Minister, and Shiv Sena supremo in a tweet. "Hon'ble Uddhav Thackeray, every activist of the Indian National Congress Party is with you in this anti-constitution and anti-national politics of Bharatiya Janata Party!" he wrote.

Republic learned that at the Varsh Bungalow, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray is discussing with NCP supremo Sharad Pawar ways to pacify Eknath Shinde and other rebellions. Discussions are also taking place about giving Shinde the CM post, and reshuffling the cabinet. 

Republic learned that NCP supremo Sharad Pawar has urged Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to give the post to Eknath Shinde. Thackeray may move out of the Chief Minister's official residence soon. 

Eknath Shinde's supporters hit the streets in Maharashtra's Thane. Speaking to the media, one of the supporters said, "Shinde Saheb is equivalent to God for us...He provided us with hospitals and other neccessities...He never focused on anything other than public service."

While talking about the political instability that has erupted in Maharashtra, BJP's Uma Bharti called Shiv Sena a 'rotten fruit'. The former Union Minister highlighted that it is not Balasaheb's Shiv Sena and said, "When the alliance of NCP, Shiv Sena, and Congress falls in Maharashtra, the BJP will have to come forward to take care of the people."

After the elaborate Facebook Live, Uddhav Thackeray has found a supporter in AIMIM. MP from the Hyderabad-based party, Imtiaz Jaleel appreciated the 'truthfulness' of the Maharashtra CM. "We may have political/ideological differences with Shiv 
Sena but after hearing Mr Uddhav Thackeray today my respect for him has simply grown. Your politeness gave a tight slap to all the dissenters within your party," Jaleel wrote on Twitter. 

Cornered by his own party men and dwindling numbers, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday conceded his defeat and said that he is 'ready to resign' from his post. Delivering an impassioned address via a Facebook live, Uddhav Thackeray expressed his dismay over his 'own people' turning against him and stated that he is ready to tender his resignation on one condition - that his fellow Shiv Sainiks face him and make the demand in person.

"We were in Opposition to the Congress and NCP for 25-30 years. But I am grateful that both Congress and NCP are supporting me today, they are saying we will stand by you. But it's my own people working with me for ages that are now questioning me. I am ready to resign as the Chief Minister and as the Shiv Sena chief if my own MLAs want it," proclaimed the CM.

On Maharashtra's political turmoil, Congress' KC Venugopal said, "It's an internal issue of Shiv Sena and the party leadership can sort it out easily. The problem is the BJP's attitude of using money and agencies to poach the MLAs. I think Shiv Sena will survive."

NCP chief Sharad Pawar and party leaders Supriya Sule and Jitendra Awhad arrived at the residence of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, in Mumbai after his baffling Facebook Live. 

With Maharashtra MLAs confined to a hotel in BJP-ruled Assam, the Leader of Opposition in the northeastern state Debabrata Saikia termed the state of affairs as 'unfortunate'. "Leaders are not allowed to come in cotact and talk to the media...Assam never witnessed a situation of this sort before," he said.

Post Uddhav Thackeray's Facebook Live, in which he hailed Shiv Sena's alliance partners, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar is en route to his residence, the Varsha Bungalow. 

As incumbent Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray declared that he is ready to resign, an influx of MLAs was seen at the residence of his predecessor and the present Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis. Ram Satpute, MLA from the BJP, was also spotted entering the Fadnavis residence by Republic. 

After Uddhav Thackeray's briefing in which he expressed his readiness to resign from the Chief Ministerial post as well as the post of Sena Chief, MP from Shiv Sena Sanjay Raut tweeted. Sharing the party symbol, Raut announced in Marathi that they 'will struggle'. 

Expressing his disappointment that not Congress or NCP but his own people from the Shiv Sena were raising objections about him serving as the CM, Uddhav Thackeray said, "I am ready to step down, to send my resignation...I have COVID, I can't go to the Raj Bhawan."

Having expressed his readiness to tender his resignation not just as the CM but also as the Sena chief, Uddhav Thackeray said, "But first, I want to have a clear conversation. I appeal to all rebels-  come and let's talk or call me, but tell me that you want me to resign."

During the press briefing, Uddhav Thackeray also threw light on how the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance was formed. "We were Opposing Congress and Nationalist Congress Party for 25 to 30 years. "We had a meeting with Sharad Pawar and Sonia Gandhi, in which they said that you have to become the CM. I told them that I never contested a corporate election. But they insisted that I should come on board."

Acknowledging that the MLAs, and MPs are leaving, Uddhav Thackeray said, "Two days ago, during the MLC elections I went and met those leaving...If they really had a problem, they would have raised it with me back then. They just disappeared, without giving any hint."

Answering the questions being raised like- 'íf this is the Shiv Sena of Balasaheb Thackeray, is this the Shiv Sena which worked on the principle of Hindtuva', Uddhav Thackeray said, "I don't think I need to even answer these questions."

With the Facebook Live scheduled for 6 p.m., the Maharashtra Chief Minister's Office informed that Uddhav Thackeray shall be addressing the people of the state 'shortly'. 

As uncertainty looms over whether or not Uddhav Thackeray is going to step down from the Chief Ministerial post, loyalist Shiv Sena MLAs have started reaching his residence, the Varsha Bungalow. 

As numbers dip, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray makes his son, and Minister Aaditya Thackeray call the rebel MLAs. Emotional appeal is being made to the MLAs ahead of the Facebook Live in which the Shiv Sena supremo is going to address the people on the current developments, say sources. 

Ahead of Uddhav Thackeray's Facebook live, NCP, one of the partners in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, said that its eyes are on it. Speaking to the media, NCP leader Jayant Patil said, "His official stand will be revealed through Facebook Live."

High voltage political drama intensified in Maharashtra as rebel Shiv Sena leader and state cabinet minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday claimed that he has the support of 46 MLAs, including six to seven Independent MLAs. "Right now we have 46 MLAs with us, including 6-7 Independent MLAs. This number will rise in the time to come. As of now we have neither received any proposal from BJP nor are we holding any talks with them," Shinde told ANI over the phone.

Republic has learned that post-Uddhav Thackeray's Facebook Live, a meeting of the Shiv Sena supremo with his NCP counterpart, Sharad Pawar is likely. Though nothing as of yet has been said about Congress, even as MVA numbers in Maharashtra slide.

Sources informed Republic that  Eknath Shinde has sought time from Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari to show strength via video call.

After testing positive for COVID, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has decided to address the people of Maharashtra via Facebook. The Facebook Live of the Shiv Sena supremo is scheduled this evening at 5.00 pm, during which he would be giving his feedback on the 'current developments'.

Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra  Ajit Pawar is holding a meeting in Mantralaya. In the meeting, the MLAs of the allies --Congress and Shiv Sena-- have not been invited. Only Nationalist Congress Party MLAs are present, informed sources. 

Eknath Shinde has written a letter to the Deputy Speaker of Maharashtra, Narhari Sitaram Zirwal, challenging his removal and the appointment of Ajay Choudhary as the leader of the Shiv Sena Legislative Party in the state Assembly. The letter has been exclusively accessed by Republic. 

En route to Guwahati, Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party chief Chandrakant Patil will meet Eknath Shinde and other rebel MLAs in the Raddison Blu Hotel. 

A chartered flight, carrying Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party chief Chandrakant Patil and 4 MLAs, has left for Guwahati, Assam. The flight is estimated to land at 5:30 p.m., say sources. 

In the resolution passed, the rebel group has highlighted how the Shiv Sena has compromised on party principles by 'aligning with contrasting ideologies for the sake of achieving power in the State of Maharashtra'. "The ideology of our party's leader late Blalsaheb Thackeray was to give a clean and honest government to the people of Maharashtra, and also without compromising on the principles of Hindutva, which was defeated on the first day itself by aligning with the Opposing ideologies," the resolution read. 

Republic has learned that the rebel MLAs have passed a resolution, through which they have resolved and reaffirmed that 'Eknath Shinde, who was appointed as the Leader of the Shiv Sena Legislature Party on 31.10.2019, is and continues to be the Leader of the Maharashtra Shiv Sena Legislature Party of the 14th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly."

With the backing of 46 MLAs, rebel Shiv Sainik Eknath Shinde responded to party supremo Uddhav Thackeray's ultimatum. Taking to the microblogging site, Twitter, Shinde wrote, "Bharat Gogavale has been appointed chief whip of Shiv Sena legislature party, hence the order issued by whip Sunil Prabhu is invalid."

As numbers in the Maharashtra assembly dwindle, posters in support of former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Devendra Fadnavis were put up in Mumbai.

Amid political turmoil in Maharashtra, a Cabinet meeting was held in Mumbai. Post the meeting, Cabinet Minister and Congress leader Nitin Raut claimed that discussions took place on  'routine subjects'. "No need to discuss the political scenario as everything is under control," Raut said. 

As rebel MLAs of Maharashtra are lodged in Guwahati, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the place is full of many 'good hotels'. "Radisson is there, Taj is there, people should come here so that the business increases. If a person lives in a hotel here, we will get GST, revenue, so even if Guwahati becomes the political epicenter of world politics, I'll be happy."

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde revealed, "Right now we have 46 MLAs with us, including 6-7 Independent MLAs. The rest of them are Shiv Sena MLAs. This number will rise in the time to come. As of now we have neither received any proposal from BJP nor are we holding any talks with them."

He added, "As far as the current political situation is concerned, I'd say that we are Balasaheb Thackeray's Shiv Sainiks and will continue to be Shiv Sainiks. As of now, we are not holding any talks with Shiv Sena or CM. We have not decided on the future course of action."

In a big development, Shiv Sena called an emergency Legislative Party meeting at 5 pm. It warned that any MLA who does not attend this meeting will have deemed to have voluntarily given up membership of the party and might face disqualification proceedings.

"Only the Cabinet agenda was discussed, and no discussion on the present political situation took place," Maharashtra Minister Aslam Shaikh told the media after the Cabinet meeting. This puts to rest the speculation that MVA is planning to recommend the dissolution of the Assembly. 

Downplaying the possibility of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's resignation, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut remarked, "No one can say what is happening tomorrow, the day after, or in the future. When such a situation emerges in many states, the Assembly is dissolved and the path of going for fresh elections is accepted. I expressed my opinion. I am going to Varsha. MVA is an alliance". Definitely, some of our MLAs are outside. He also expressed hope that Eknath Shinde and other Shiv Sena MLAs will come back to the party fold. 

Shiv Sena MLA Gulabrao Patil who was present in the meeting held yesterday in the Varsha bungalow with Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray is travelling to Guwahati in support of Eknath Shinde. Meanwhile, Independent MLA Chandrakant Patil is also going to Guwahati to meet Shinde. 

The meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet has commenced. CM Uddhav Thackeray is chairing the meeting via video conferencing as he tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, sources indicated that three Ministers- Uday Samant, Subhash Desai, Dada Bhuse are not present at the meeting. 

As per sources, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray tested positive for COVID-19. Speaking to the media, Congress leader Kamal Nath remarked, "Congress is supporting the MVA government and will continue to do so. I wanted to meet Uddhav Thackeray. But he is COVID positive. I assured that Congress will continue to support MVA government." 

When asked if Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray will resign, Maharashtra Minister Balasaheb Thorat said "No, he won’t’". 

Lashing out at BJP over the current political crisis in Maharashtra, senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury remarked, "BJP's goal is to capture entire India. If an opposition party speaks against them, they don't tolerate it. They're walking the path of building an 'opposition-free India'.First, they said 'Congress-mukt' India, now they changed it to 'vipaksh-mukt'".

43 Maharashtra Congress MLAs were present at the Legislative Party meeting. Another MLA- Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar is on an official government visit to Europe.

As per sources, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray is contemplating resignation. He may pass the resolution to dissolve the Assembly in the Cabinet meeting beginning at 1 pm. However, he is likely to consult NCP and Congress over the possibility of resignation. 

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya indicated that the Maharashtra government will collapse soon. Taking a dig at Shiv Sena, he opined, "Looks like the longest ‘Work from Home’ tenure in any office in the world is about to end in Maharashtra!"

Taking to Twitter amid the growing number of Shiv Sena MLAs turning rebels, Sanjay Raut remarked, "The sequence of political developments in Maharashtra is towards the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly."

Sources revealed that senior Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde is likely to form his new political party. This party might follow the ideology of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray. 

As per sources, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar held a telephonic conversation with Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray over the current political crisis. He is also likely to meet the CM in the afternoon before the key meeting of Shiv Sena MLAs and MPs. 

The Rebel Shiv Sena MLAs are likely to sign a letter of support to Eknath Shinde and seek a floor test. They might send this letter to Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari. 

Mira Bhayandar MLA Geeta Jain has reached the Sagar bungalow to meet former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis. While she won the Assembly polls as an Independent, she joined Shiv Sena in 2020. 
 

As per sources, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar expressed displeasure over the lack of intelligence over Eknath Shinde and other Shiv Sena MLAs flying out in the dark of the night. Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil and Minister Jayant Patil are among the NCP members present in the meeting where he made his displeasure clear. 

Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has called a meeting of all Shiv Sena MLAs and MPs at his official residence at 5 pm today. As per sources, some important decisions might be taken after this meeting. 

Speaking to the media, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said, "I spoke to him (Eknath Shinde) today morning itself. All those who are outside are Shiv Sainiks. They want to remain with Shiv Sena. There might be some misunderstanding". Moreover, he claimed that Shinde has no demands. He also affirmed that Congress and NCP are supporting Uddhav Thackeray. Raut added, "We will continue to fight. What's the worst thing that can happen? We will lose power. We can get back power". 

Maharashtra Parliamentary Affairs and Transport Minister Anil Parab reached Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's official 'Varsha' residence. He has been summoned by the ED asking him to appear before the agency at 11 am.

As per the Raj Bhavan, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has COVID-19 symptoms. It added, "Which is why he is admitted to the hospital. He is stable and there are no such talks of handing over his charge to the other Governor. If anyone wants to get in contact with the Governor, can do it via video conference". 

After Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was seen exiting the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati just head of the arrival of the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs, he faced criticism from Congress. Assam Congress president Bhupen Borah opined, "Assam CM should concentrate on his own job and provide adequate relief and rehabilitation and help the flood-affected people of Assam. He can do his politicking in happier times not now when people are crying for the help of the Assam government". 

Commenting on the current political situation, BJP's Maharashtra in-charge CT Ravi said, "There is unrest among Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress... ask Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray and Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray (about the MLAs in Surat)... Eknath Shinde is a public leader, I don't know what's in his mind."

A meeting of the Congress Legislative Party will take place today in the presence of AICC Observer for the state Kamal Nath. 43 MLAs are going to be present in the meeting as per sources. 

Amid the political crisis in the state, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was admitted to a private hospital in south Mumbai after testing COVID-19 positive. Koshyari who was always seen wearing face masks at public events has been admitted to the Reliance Foundation Hospital. 

Two more Shiv Sena MLAs- Sanjay Rathod and Yogesh Kadam are on their way to Guwahati to support Eknath Shinde. If this happens, the rebels' strength will swell to 42. 

Maharashtra Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil reached 'Silver Oak' to meet NCP supremo Sharad Pawar amid fast-paced political developments in the state. 

Former Madhya Pradesh CM Kamal Nath will meet Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray at noon today. He is also likely to call on NCP supremo Sharad Pawar at 1 pm. A  day earlier, he was appointed the special AICC observer for Maharashtra. 

Even as Maharashtra is facing a political crisis, SP MLA Abu Azmi who supports MVA has gone to Dubai for his business work. However, Azmi is likely to come back to Mumbai if required. 

Before the arrival of the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati. The legislators led by Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde are staying at this hotel.

In an exclusive scoop, Republic TV learnt that two Assam Ministers- Piyush Hazarika and Jayanta Barua are present at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati where the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde are holed up currently. 

Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde will hold a meeting with the Shiv Sena MLAs present with him at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati by around 9.30 am. They are likely to discuss the further course of action. 

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar will meet all party MLAs today. NCP legislators have been asked to remain in Mumbai. 

All rebel Shiv Sena MLAs have reached the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati. As per sources, 4 more MLAs can reach Guwahati soon. 

Speaking to the media, BJP MLA Sushanta Borgohain said, "I came to receive them (Shiv Sena MLAs from Surat, Gujarat). I have not counted how many MLAs have arrived. I came here for personal relations. They have not disclosed any program." 

Before leaving for Guwahati, all rebel Shiv Sena MLAs were asked to sign a paper showing their support for Eknath Shinde. 

The flight ferrying the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde and Independents landed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. A special passage has been made for the MLAs to go to the buses lined up outside the airport. 

Speaking to the media after arriving in Guwahati, Eknath Shinde remarked, "40 Shiv Sena MLAs are present here. We want to take forward Balasaheb Thackeray's Hindutva and his position. I don't want to comment or criticise anyone." 

As per sources, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray will take a critical decision on the future of the MVA government after the Cabinet meeting at 1 pm. 

The Shiv Sena rebels led by Eknath Shinde are likely to land in Guwahati in the next 30-40 minutes. There is heavy security at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

"Taking Balasaheb's legacy of Hindutva ahead, we take it forward and will not compromise anything related to Hindutva for power," Shinde says.

Amid the ongoing political turmoil, Shiv Sena rebel Eknath Shinde, who has been camping out in Surat with 21 MLAs, was joined this evening by two more MLAs, shortly before their expected removal to faraway Assam. According to the latest development, he reached Surat International Airport to leave for Guwahati. As per the media reports, the major development came soon after he spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

Amid the crisis, the residence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is witnessing a lot of movement. Just a few minutes back, Aditya Thackeray, along with Cabinet Minister Dada Bhuse was seen leaving the Varsh Bungalow. Dada Bhuse is the one who didn't attend the meeting in the morning and later he along with two others was taken to the bungalow by Shivsena leaders.

After a meeting in Mumbai, Congress, which along with Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party forms the Maha Vikas Aghadi Alliance, held a meeting in a time of crisis for the government. Post the meeting, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee supremo Nana Patole accused the Centre of trying to 'destabilize' the MVA govt in the state. 

From the Le Meridian Hotel in Gujarat's Surat, the rebel MLAs would be moved to a hotel in Assam's Guwahati, Republi learned from sources, post the meeting of Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Devendra Fadnavis with JP Nadda, the BJP National President. 

Amid rebellion by Eknath Shinde, the Shiv Sena has decided to move the loyalist MLAs to St Regis Hotel in Mumbai's Lower Parel, sources told Republic. 

Republic brings to you inside visuals of Surat's Le Meridian Hotel, where the rebel MLAs are presently staying. As is evident from the visuals, there is heavy police deployment. Earlier, sources had told us that 300 to 400 policemen have taken positions inside and outside the hotel premises and put barricades on both entry and exit points to prevent any "unauthorised" person from entering the property from the main road.

Amid flux in Maharashtra, Former Chief Minister and incumbent Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis' wife Amruta shared a cryptic tweet. Taking to the microblogging site, without naming anyone, she wrote 'Ek Tha Kapati Raja'.

Amid the political crisis in Maharashtra's ruling alliance triggered by Shiv Sena strongman  Eknath Shinde's rebellion, leaders of MVA constituents Congress and the NCP met Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray here on Tuesday evening to take stock of the situation. Cabinet ministers Balasaheb Thorat and Ashok Chavan of the Congress met Thackeray, who heads the Shiv Sena,  at his official residence  'Varsha' in south Mumbai, where state NCP president and minister Jayant Patil was also present.

All eyes are on NCP president Sharad Pawar, the chief architect of the Shiv Sena-led ruling coalition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) who is likely to arrive in Mumbai soon from New Delhi, where earlier in the day he convened a crucial meeting of opposition parties to decide on a common candidate for the next month's presidential polls.

Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, who is at the centre of the current political turmoil in Maharashtra, had humble beginnings and rose to become a top member of the party, in the process acquiring formidable organizational skills and a wide mass base.

Once an auto-rickshaw driver in Thane city adjoining Mumbai, Shinde (58) quickly emerged as a key Sena leader in the Thane-Palghar region after joining politics and is known for aggressive approach towards issues of public interest.

The Sena leader, a four-time MLA who holds urban development and PWD portfolios in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, never hides his humble origins. On the contrary, he makes it a point to mention it at times to underscore how he has been indebted to the saffron party and its founder late Bal Thakeray for his rise in state politics.

The meeting of the Coordination Committee of the Maha Vikas Aghadi has begun at Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's residence- the Varsha Bungalow, sources say. 

After NCP, Congress now puts the onus on Shiv Sena to deal with the rebellion trailed by Eknath Shinde. Speaking to the media, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Nana Patole said, "Differences are within the Shiv Sena, they should solve ...We are keeping a close tab on the development.."

En route to Mumbai, Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar has canceled his visit to Pune, scheduled for tomorrow. The cancellation comes as Maharashtra faces an unprecedented political situation. 

Republic has learned that the phones have been confiscated of the rebel MLAs housed in Surat. Their leader, Eknath Shinde is in touch with Gujarat BJP's CR Patil and Harsh Sanghvi. He has requested that they be moved to Ahmedabad, but a thumbs up from Fadnavis is awaited.

On June 22, a meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet has been scheduled. All Cabinet Ministers have asked to be present in the meeting, which is to take place amid the rebellion started by Eknath Shinde. 

While interacting with the media on the present crisis, Ex-Mayor of Mumbai and Shiv Sena leader Kishori Pednekar broke down in tears. 

In light of the crisis that has struck Maharashtra, Congress which is one of the partners in the MVA alliance has called for an emergency meeting tomorrow, i.e., June 22. All 44 MLAs have been asked to be present at the meeting. At today's meeting called by Balasaheb Thorat, 30 MLAs were present.

As per sources, Uddhav Thackeray's aide Milind Narvekar has left for Mumbai after meeting Shinde. He will directly go to the Varsha bungalow to meet the CM. 

As per the latest update, 30 Shiv Sena MLAs and 2 independent MLAs are present in Le Meridian Hotel in Gujarat's Surat. They are said to be in constant touch with the BJP and are even scheduled to meet Devendra Fadnavis, who will leave from Delhi in while, say sources. 

Republic Spoke to one of the two aides sent by Uddhav Thackeray to Eknath Shinde. He revealed, "Our meeting with Shinde lasted for 1.5 hours. We made Shinde speak to Thackeray. The conversation was for about 14 to 15 min, during which Shinde fumed that we came all the way to meet him here in Surat but back in Mumbai, there were slogans being raised against him, and his posters were being torn and burnt because of what was being shown, despite him not leaving the Shiv Sena." 

Addressing the media, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut highlighted how Eknath Shinde was 'well aware' of why the party's alliance with BJP broke in the state. "We are trying from our side to establish communication with him," Raut said, adding that they are ready to face 'anything'.

Congress confirmed that a meeting of the MVA partners is scheduled for later in the day. Addressing the media, the gran-old party's HK Patil said that they will discuss the situation in the meeting. "BJP is playing this operation lotus. Democracy will weaken by this type of activity. People of Maharashtra will not let this happen," he said. 

In a big scoop, Republic has learned that Milind Narvekar made Uddhav Thackeray speak to Eknath Shinde over the phone. The conversation between Shinde and Thackeray lasted for over 10 minutes. 

Protests have broken out in different parts of Mumbai, including Lower Parel, against Eknath Shinde for leading a rebellion against Shiv Sena and the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra. 

As per sources, during the meeting, Eknath Shinde has told Milind Narvekar, the personal assistant to Uddhav Thackeray, that for them 'Hindutva is paramount' and they would 'not compromise' on it. After the meeting, there was a 15-minute telephonic conversation between Narvekar and Thackeray. 

As Eknath Shinde becomes the face of the rebellion in the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, his posters emerged in the streets of Mumbai. 

Only 22 MLAs are in the anti-Shinde camp of the Shiv Sena. As per sources, the letter which was submitted to the Speaker for the removal of Shinde from the Legislative Party Leader had signatures of only 22 MLAs of Shiv Sena, even though the party 55 MLAs in the assembly. 

Union Minister Narayan Rane claims, 'out of 55 MLAs, 35 MLAs have left Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's side. "CM should step down...Why is he not resigning from the post," Rane asked. 

Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Amit Shah, and party's National President JP Nadda have reached the party headquarters in Delhi. They will be meeting the party president of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, and decide on the next step to be taken with respect to the state where the party is the key Opposition, as an all-out rebellion has broken out in the ruling alliance. 

The security outside the office of the Maharashtra unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party, located at Mumbai's Nariman Point was beefed up to prevent any untoward incident amid the political crisis in the state. 

While a meeting is underway at Uddhav Thackeray's residence, another meeting of the Shiv Sena has started at the residence of Gulabrao Patil. Uday Samant, Anil Desai, Sunil Prabhu, Sanjay Rathod, Santosh Bangar among other are present in the meeting, Republic learnt. 

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, and other top MVA ministers reach Varsha Bungalow to meet CM Uddhav Thackeray amid the crisis. 

With the meeting scheduled for 6 p.m., any time now  Dy CM Ajit Pawar will arrive to meet CM Uddhav Thackeray and discuss the prevailing situation in Maharashtra.

Amid the crisis, massive sloganeering was witnessed by Shiv Sena supporters outside the Sena Bhawan in Mumbai. Gathered in large numbers, they could be heard saying, "Uddhav tum aage badho, hum tumhare saath hain (Uddhav you go ahead, we are with you)". 

The meeting between Uddhav Thackeray's personal assistant Narvekar and the rebel MLAs led by Eknath Shinde is said to have been concluded. Narvekar will now speak to Thackeray on the demands raised in the meeting by Shinde, sources say. 

The Shiv Sena released an official letter announcing the appointment of  Ajay Chaudhary as the Legislative Party leader in the Maharashtra Assembly. Chaudhary is replacing Eknath Shinde, who is presently leading a rebellion in the state.

In the wake of the crisis in Maharashtra, a marathon of meetings will take place in Mumbai. As per sources, at 6 p.m, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will meet Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Then at 7, MLAs, MPs, and senior leaders of Shiv Sena will meet for the second round of meeting. The first round was held earlier in the day. 

Then at 9, Maha Vikas Aghadi partners' will meet. All the meetings are to take place at the Varsha Bungalow, the residence of the Thackerays', as per sources. 

In the meeting between rebel MLAs of the Shiv Sena and Milind Narvekar, the personal assistant to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are also in attendance. The MLAs are said to be firm on their demand for an alliance between BJP and Shiv Sena in the state. 

In conversation with Uddhav Thackeray's aide, rebel Maha Vikas Aghadi MLAs led by Eknath Shinde reiterated their demand for an alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Shiv Sean in Maharastra.

Another Shiv Sena MLA is traveling to Surat amid rebellion. Republic learned that MLA Lata Sonawane is en route to Surat from Delhi. 

Sources revealed that the Surat hotel housing Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde and rebel Sena MLAs has turned into a fortress. The hotel, situated on Dumas road of the Diamond City, has stopped accepting new bookings for an indefinite period.

Apart from the outer campus of the hotel, policemen are also deployed inside the hotel, especially on the floor where these rebel leaders are staying. 

Hyperventilating, Shiv Sena addressed the press. Giving details on the meeting that took place in the Varsha Bungalow earlier in the day, Sena's Gajanan Kirtikar, said, "30-35 MLAs were here. Also, present were 4-5 MPs. Some could not attend because of prior commitments.The number is still with us. "

Uddhav Thackeray's personal assistant Milind Narvekar outside hotel in Surat where Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde have camped. Shinde is yet to decide whether or not he would be meeting the Thackeray envoy.

Milind Narvekar, the personal assistant to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, reached the hotel in Surat where Eknath Shinde is said to be lodged in, along with other MLAs currently. Narvekar is waiting to meet Shinde, inform sources. 

Eknath Shinde is likely to resign as Maha Vikas Aghadi minister as the political crisis intensifies in Maharashtra. 

Republic has learned that the Bharatiya Janata Party's unit in Gujarat is in coordination with the unit in Maharashtra for the movement of  MLAs from Mumbai to Gandhinagar. Details will be given after Devendra Fadnavis's meeting with the saffron party's top brass in Delhi.

Amid the political instability in Maharashtra, Republic has learned that the state's Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar will meet Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at 6 p.m. in Varsha Bungalow. 

Amid the ongoing crisis, the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance is trying its best to put on a united show. Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar took to his official Twitter handle and highlighted how this was the third time in the last two and a half years that an attempt was made to deviate the MLA from the alliance. Pawar said that in the past two times, the MLAs were kept in Haryana, Gurgaon from where they were able to escape. 

Highlighting that for the last two and a half years, the government of Maharashtra is running properly, Pawar said, "Maharashtra Legislative Council elections were held yesterday. We got the quota of votes fixed for two NCP candidates. Our party MLAs voted with discipline. A candidate from our front could not win, this is true. Will discuss this after going back to Mumbai. I am sure that there will be some way out of this. There is perfect coordination between the three allies of the Maharashtra government."

The show of strength of Shiv Sena is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The show of strength will take place at the Sena Bhawan, most likely in the presence of party supremo and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. All MLAs who were present in Varsha Bungalow for a meeting earlier in the day, has been asked to be present. 

In the midst of the crisis, the Bharatiya Janata Party held a press briefing on Tuesday. In the press briefing by Chandrakant Patil, it was made clear that no proposal has been sent by the saffron party as of yet. "Everything will be clear in the next 24 hours," said Patil. 

Amid flux in Maharashtra, state Minister and Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde, who is said to be leading a revolt in the aftermath of the Legislative Council elections in the state, broke his silence. Taking to the microblogging site, Twitter, Shinde proclaimed that he and the other rebels were Balasaheb's 'staunch Shiv Sainik's'. The Maharashtra Minister credited the late right-wing pro-Marathi leader for teaching them Hindutva. 

"For Babasaheb's thoughts and  Anand Dighe Saheb's teachings, we have never and will never cheat for power," the Shiv Sena MLA wrote in the tweet. However, soon after uploading the tweet, Shinde removed all references to Shiv Sena from his Twitter bio. 

Signalling that it is in no mood to mollify rebel leader Eknath Shinde, Shiv Sena removed him as the Legislative Party leader. Sewri MLA Ajay Chaudhary will be the new Shiv Sena Legislative Party leader.

According to sources, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis is likely to go to Surat soon. At present, he is in Delhi where he is set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. 

Issuing the first response after leading a rebellion of Shiv Sena MLAs, Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde said, "We are Balasaheb's staunch Shiv Sainiks ... Balasaheb has taught us Hindutva .. We have never and will never cheat for power owing to Balasaheb's thoughts and Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Saheb's teachings." 

Congress President Sonia Gandhi has deputed Kamal Nath as AICC Observer to Maharashtra in the wake of recent political development in the state, with immediate effect. Incidentally, Nath failed to save his government in Madhya Pradesh after 22 Congress MLAs rebelled and shifted to Bengaluru.

In a fresh development, BJP MLA Sanjay Kute has reached the Le Meridian hotel in Surat where the rebel Shiv Sena MLAs are staying at present. As per sources, BJP has asked some leaders to initiate a dialogue with Independent MLAs who are supporting Shiv Sena. 

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar will address a press conference on the Maharashtra political crisis at 2 pm today. Meanwhile, sources revealed that only 19 Shiv Sena MLAs attended a meeting called by CM Uddhav Thackeray at his official residence in Mumbai. These legislators are as follows:

Addressing a press conference in Delhi, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar exuded confidence that a solution to the present political crisis in Maharashtra was on the cards. While conceding that cross-voting took place in the MLC polls on Monday, he refuted rumours of a rift in MVA. He also contended that Eknath Shinde's rebellion was an internal matter of Shiv Sena.

Speaking to Republic TV, AICC Maharashtra in-charge HK Patil denied speculation that there would be defections in Congress. He added, "I am going to talk to all the MLAs. Looks like it (government) is safe. Though Shiv Sena MLAs have gone to Surat, I think many of them will come back".

As per sources, Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray's personal assistant and party secretary Milind Narvekar and Ravindra Pathak will visit Surat in an endeavour to meet Eknath Shinde who is staying at a 5-star hotel. As per sources, they will convey Uddhav Thackeray's message to Shinde. 

In an exclusive scoop, Republic TV has learnt that Congress fears a group of around 10 MLAs led by a sitting disgruntled Cabinet minister might also switch sides. So, AICC Maharashtra in-charge HK Patil will meet each MLA individually, sources added. 

As per sources, Shiv Sena MLA Nitin Deshmukh who was staying in the Surat hotel along with Eknath Shinde and others was taken to the hospital after his health deteriorated. 

As per sources, only about 20 leaders attended the meeting called by Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray. This includes MLA Vaibhav Naik, former Minister Diwakar Raote, MLA Udaysingh Rajput, MP Vinayak Raut, MLC Narendra Darade, MP Anil Desai, MLC Vilas Potnis, Varun Sardesai, MLC Neelam Gorhe, Minister Uday Samant and Sanjay Raut. As per sources many MLAs didn't turn up at the meeting. 

Sources revealed that 14 Shiv Sena MLAs are set to reach 'Varsha', the Maharashtra CM's official residence. This includes MLAs such as Dada Bhuse and Ambadas Danve who were in touch with Eknath Shinde last night. 

Commenting on the recent crisis, Congress MLA and ex-Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan said, "We need to have a serious discussion about MLC election, we need to talk about it seriously. I don't want to comment on the other political party. Our votes have reduced and we will discuss it." 

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut reached Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's 'Varsha' residence. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has gone to meet BJP president JP Nadda. 

As per sources, 5 Independents have now joined the rebel camp in Maharashtra. Therefore, the rebel camp has now swelled to 40 MLAs.

As per sources, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray is likely to meet NCP supremo Sharad Pawar at 8 pm today. Prior to this, Pawar will interact with NCP leaders.

Hitting out at Sanjay Raut's allegation that BJP is responsible for the rebellion in the Shiv Sena ranks, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrakant Patil said, "These problems have happened in their party due to Sanjay Raut's incendiary speeches. People will not tolerate this. Eknath Shinde's rebellion is proof of this. At least now, Sanjay Raut should talk politely." 

As per sources, 29 MLAs are supporting Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde. Out of which, 20 legislators including three Ministers are in Surat at present. Multiple MLAs had cross-voted during the MLC elections held yesterday, sources added. 

Speaking to the media, Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Pravin Darekar said, "BJP is the largest party here, Devendra Fadnavis a popular leader. It is nobody's property. It can see what you did in 2.5 yrs. It's our duty to set things right. We care for Maharashtra, they care about power". Not ruling out the possibility of the BJP returning to power in Maharashtra, he added, "Whatever is right for the people of Maharashtra will be done. Their interest is more important than their power. If it's needed for Maharashtra such a movement can take place". 

Amid speculation that she is one of the rebels, Independent-turned-Shiv Sena MLA Geeta Jain remarked, "Given the current political situation in the state, many journalists as well as activists contacted and asked about the role. I would like to tell everyone that any decision regarding the next course of action will be taken in due course after discussing with all the workers."

Key MNS leader Shalini Thackeray took a swipe at Shiv Sena over the rebellion. She quipped, "Understand everyone ... .....?? Once again Maha Bhakas Aghadi missed the maths of the front and once again the Chief Minister fell flat on the face... Now he must have understood who is alone .... Everyone understands how much unity you have ..... but when will you understand.....?

Ashok Chavan, Yashomati Thakur, Varsha Gaikwad, Nitin Raut, Satej Patil, Sunil Kedar, Vishwajit Kadam have reached Balasaheb Thorat’s residence for a key Congress meeting.

As per sources, disgruntled Shiv Sena Minister Eknath Shinde is being offered a top post by BJP in return for helping the party come back to power. Moreover, sources indicated that all the rebel legislators are likely to resign. 

Former Maharashtra CM and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis has arrived in Delhi. He is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah soon. 

Speaking to the media, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut admitted that some Shiv Sena MLAs are unreachable and holed up in Gujarat. Expressing confidence that BJP won't be successful in toppling the Maharashtra government, he also lashed out at Gujarat BJP president CR Patil. He also maintained that Maharashtra Minister Eknath Shinde would not rebel citing that he is a loyal Shiv Sainik. 

Speaking to the media on the political crisis in Maharashtra, Congress MLA Nana Patole said, "The High Command is being informed about everything. BJP's politics is about the misuse of authority. The situation keeps changing, so the heat will go away. Congress MLAs are not going to Delhi." 

Sources have informed Republic that at least three sitting ministers of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government - Abdul Sattar,  Shambhu Raj Desai, and Sandipan Bhumre - are staying at a five-star hotel in Surat, along with other rebellious MLAs. Led by state minister Eknath Shinde, the legislators are said to be in touch with the BJP. 

Maharashtra BJP president Chandrakant Patil will address a press conference in Mumbai at 2 pm today. He is expected to speak on the rebellion in the Shiv Sena camp. 

In more trouble for Shiv Sena, 9 more MLAs including more Shiv Sena legislators and Independents are on the way to Surat, sources revealed. They are likely to reach the Le Meridian Hotel in Surat where the other Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde are holed up currently. 

"No comments should be made on such things, else what is the point of being unreachable," Union Minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane commented on the purported rebellion in Shiv Sena. 

As per sources, nearly 21 MLAs including three from Raigad and Independents are in touch with Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde. Some of them include:

In a massive political development, senior Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde and at least 10 other party MLAs are incommunicado and are holed up at a 5-star hotel in Surat. At present, Shinde holds the portfolios of Urban Development and PWD (Public Undertakings) in the Uddhav Thackeray-led government in Maharashtra. Sources indicated that these leaders are miffed with the Sena and are in touch with BJP. This assumes significance in the wake of several Shiv Sena MLAs cross-voting for BJP in the recently concluded MLC polls. 

In the wake of the possible rebellion within Shiv Sena, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray summoned a meeting of all party MLAs at noon today. Meanwhile, Sena MP Sanjay Raut has cancelled his participation in the meeting of opposition leaders on the presidential election scheduled later in the day and all MVA Ministers have been asked to remain in the state. Sources also revealed that NCP supremo Sharad Pawar will also chair a meeting via video conference. 

The rift in Shiv Sena comes in the wake of BJP managing to get its 5th candidate elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Council on June 20 despite not having enough numbers. The election to 10 seats was necessitated by the retirement of 9 members- NCP's Ramraje Naik Nimbalkar and Sanjay Daund, Pravin Darekar, Sujitsinh Thakur and Prasad Lad of BJP, Shiv Sena's Subhash Desai and Diwakar Raote, Vinayak Mete and Sadabhau Khot and the demise of BJP MLA RN Singh. A contest was on cards between BJP and Congress for one seat was on the cards as the former fielded an extra candidate. 

While BJP's Darekar Ram Shinde, Uma Khapre and Shrikant Bharatiya, NCP's Nimbalkar and Eknath Khadse and Shiv Sena's Sachin Ahir and Amshya Padvi won on the bases of the first preference votes, a tough fight ensued between the Congress candidates and BJP. Though Mumbai Congress president Bhai Jagtap won finally, Devendra Fadnavis' close aide Lad emerged victorious leading to the defeat of Congress' first-choice candidate Chandrakant Handore.
