With the Lok Sabha elections 2019 inching closer, Republic TV and CVoter have presented the National Approval Ratings to give complete national picture as to who will win if polls are held in September 2018. There are 10 seats up for grabs in Haryana. While the BJP is winning Haryana, it seems to be only be a scrape. The BJP swept 7 out of the 10 of them in 2014, and is pegged to get 6 out of the 10 this time round. In tandem, the Congress seems to be benefitting from the anti-incumbency against Khattar by swinging 2 more seats in the state than it did in 2014.
- In terms of voteshare, the BJP is pegged to drop by 2.2% while the INC is set to gain by 10.7% which may be serious anti incumbency being voiced against the Khattar leadership despite the BJP getting the majority seats in Haryana
- While there is something to cheer about in terms of voteshare, the fact of the matter is that this is the second worst performance of the Congress in Haryana since 1977 barring 1996 when they got 2 seats. The worst ever, unsurprisingly, came in 2014 when the Congress got just 1 seat in the state
- The projections today indicate that, in Haryana, when it comes to choosing between the Khattar Factor and the Hooda-Vadra Factor, the electorate is still leaning towards the sitting CM Khattar. And wi1l this only become more prominent in the upcoming months once the election rhetoric picks?
2018 has been a blockbuster year so far as far as the political landscape of India is concerned. While BJP managed to form government in 3 states this year, either in alliance or on its own, gaining a massive lead over the Opposition, the Congress, by forming government in Karnataka by tying up with the JDS, saved itself from being out of power in all large states, save for Punjab. Out of 4 states, which went to polls this year, BJP has its government on its own in Tripura and with alliance partners in two states, namely, Meghalaya (with National People’s Party), Nagaland (with Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party), whereas the Congress managed to form government in Karnataka with JDS as its alliance partner.
The results of 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the state assembly elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.
