National Approval Ratings: UPA shoots upto 6 seats as TRS suffers minor fall in Telangana

Ahead of the Assembly polls, which will be held in 2019, Republic TV, in association with CVoter, has come with the National Approval Ratings to bring forward the mood of the nation in the present time. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is presently in power in the centre, as well as 21 states, either alone or through a coalition of NDA.

In Telangana, the contest between the parties is expected to be a crunch affair. Last general elections, TRS were the ultimate winners, managing 11 out of the 17 seats. NDA, who had TDP in their ally then, won two seats as well as the Congress. AIMIM and YSR won one seat each.

  • 17 seats in Telangana and a Congress-TDP alliance in Telangana already announced. Congress pulling 6 seats by itself, which is 4 more than it did in 2014. TDP not pulling a single seat in Telangana. The NDA had 2 seats in 2014 but 1 of them were of the TDP-- so again, like Andhra-- we are seeing that the Naidu walkout has hurt Naidu the most because Naidu is now getting 0 while the BJP has managed to retain its 1 seat in 2018.

  • The TDP has not just lost its own seat but it has also actively propelled the Congress towards a 4 seat gain-- taking it from 2 seats in 2014 to 6 seats now-- which means again that Naidu has only benefitted his allies and almost charitably given away his own seats all for a decision to walkout of NDA

  • The AIMIM angle is also at play in Telangana and i believe that given the steam of Owaisi’s campaign, it will only become a stronger and stronger factor in the months to come. At present, the AIMIM has not only managed to retain its 1 seat acquired in 2014, but it has also made a 2.2% gain in terms of voteshare since 2014

(The results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the state assembly elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.)
