Ahead of the Assembly polls, which will be held in 2019, Republic TV, in association with CVoter, has come with the National Approval Ratings to bring forward the mood of the nation in the present time. The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is presently in power in the centre, as well as 21 states, either alone or through a coalition of NDA.

The four-seat Himachal Pradesh gave its full support to BJP in 2014, and it seems, a repeat is on cards.

In the previous assembly elections, PM Modi's party swept all the four seats with a 53.5% vote share. Congress, despite an impressive 40.7%, managed nothing. The Others failed to do much, wih a vote share of 5.8%.

Yet another clean sweep seems on cards, with BJP ruling reign yet again. Though, their vote share might drop down to 50.6%. Congress also seem certain to lose their vote share and up with 37.5%. The gainers from all this are the Others, who will get 11.9%.

  • With a total of 4 lok sabha seats in the fray from the state of Himachal Pradesh, the choice appears to be a clear BJP. The National Approval Ratings project that despite both the BJP and Congress decreasing in vote share - the BJP by 2.9% and the Congress by 3.2%. The overall sentiment remains with the BJP.

  • Given the fact that the BJP is being able to maintain a 10 percent lead in terms of voteshare despite anti-incumbency at both state and centre levels, isn’t it indicative that the Congress has failed to make a decisive comeback ever since its dismal 2017 state assembly performance?

  • The current projections are coming at the heels of the worst state level performance of the Congress party since 1990, considering the Congress just won 21 seats in the December 20187 elections - where both Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi personally campaigned - isn’t the projection today just a larger symbol of the growing irrelevance of Rahul’s party in Himachal?

(The results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections may or may not reflect the results or scenarios of the state assembly elections, nevertheless, to establish where we stand at present, Republic TV and CVoter has presented the National Approval Ratings.)
